    Akubra Overload

...my open road has a teardrop, although I think the modern ones are said to be a bit short to do it easily. To the eye, in natural light the Campdraft has a touch of yellow or tan to it, and the bindings are the same tone but a touch darker. My preference is for a little less colour saturation...

    Akubra Overload

I love that color (looks like a bone) but I think it's much more tan in actuality. Buying used one needs to have an open mind about color as finding a used hat in great condition in your size is hard enough & sometimes you just have to try different colors. The teardrop doesn't hit my head...

    Akubra Overload

...trip it was great in 35*C, although I did pop the teardrop out into a centre crease to keep the felt off my head. Not as much brim in the Campdraft as on others but that’s fine unless I’m planning on being out in the open for long periods, but mostly I’m in semi forested areas or if in the...

    Akubra Overload

I like the Olive Brown as it's really usable. I like silverbelly but when your out digging in the dirt with dust flying around you or you have garden dirt on your hands & touch a light hat it's not going to hold up look wise. This is the first time I've ever seen a tablelands on the bay in my...

    Akubra Overload

...functionally identical. I’d probably go for a lighter colour to reflect a bit more heat. One thing I have noticed, based on messing with my Campdraft, is that a teardrop is warmer on the head than a simple crease since the latter is higher and doesn’t touch the top of the head. High crowns...

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Never had a Campdraft. The one I'm looking at would set me back over 300 USD to get it from Australia today.

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Much of this is available elsewhere, but the Campdraft is usually open crown, the Bushman is a specific hat, brought originally from England, that actually predates the Akubra brand. It was the first model when the brand was formed.

    Akubra Overload

Thanks, Ibut seems the Campdraft has a narrow brim of 2 3/4 inch. Really trying to get 3 1/4 or better 3 1/2 inch brim as the sun in CA is brutal. I have a Gray Resistol 6 7/8 Tycoon that fits so nice. It really isn't fun to struggle pulling & tugging on a hat that doesn't fit right. Maybe I...

    Akubra Overload

Get a Campdraft and low crowns won’t be an issue. Plus you get to shape it yourself, but more colours would be nice. As for size: I’m somewhere between a 57 and 58. With Akubra I always go with a 58 and they feel too big at first, but a couple of rain showers later they’re about perfect. I have...

    I think that looks outstanding!

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Akubra Campdraft getting a bit of a rough trip in China for a conference. Holds up remarkably well although the crease has taken a bit of a ‘natural’ shape, and an ad hoc centre crease to raise the crown helped keep the heat off noticeably better than a teardrop, especially with the liner...

Akubra Campdraft for a rainy day outdoors.

This looks like it’ll be a good one!

    The Open Road Guild

This is backwards. The thinner vintage felt is almost certainly more dense than a modern Akubra.

    The Open Road Guild

...deluxe says everything you need to know about how a good hat can creep up on you. However, while the OR is hands down the finer hat, the Campdraft is still my rainy day go to hat. OR in a shower is one thing, but given the thin soft felt compared to the dense but pliable Akubra, I’d not...

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

I've owned seven or eight furfelt Akubras; all of them started a little loose and quickly snugged up to a perfect fit. That hatbox is glorious.

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

First decent rain shower for the Campdraft. I tend to wear hats while they dry after a good wetting so they can conform better to my head. The Campdraft is a fairly stiff hat with an oval a bit wider than my head so I’m hoping it’ll shrink down a bit.

What hat are you waiting for today?

...Made the mistake of browsing Mercari while waiting for a flight and bought a 1950’s Open Road, 7 1/4, natural colour, and just a few marks that will probably clean up easily enough. Looks to be very similar dimensions to my Campdraft and a little larger than the modern OR’s.

Photos didn't seem to post, Dan. At least not for me.

What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Evening in the park in the Campdraft. Somehow brim up seems to be the way to go. I also put a teardrop crease into it but kept the fairly blunt front pinch.
