The Mighty Eighth: New $500M HBO series from Spielberg/Hanks

So it looks like this thing is still alive...good news!

Is Band of Brothers any good?

( Worf, Thanks for the reminder of those early movies, which were good, if now 'dated' and largely forgotten by the last couple of generations. William Bendix was a believable 'everyman' in Guadalcanal Diary. 'From Here to Eternity' (admittedly not a shoot-em-up) and 'Sands of Iwo Jima' were...

Is Band of Brothers any good?

I'll be apostate here. I agree that 'we' have more interest in the European theater for many reasons cited previously. The Pacific series and the actual history, are both fascinating, compelling and deserve more attention. The vast distances and the drama of the many amphibious operations...

Olivia de Havilland: Happy Birthday. 100 years old.

What a legacy, to have been a major character in that movie.

The Mighty Eighth: New $500M HBO series from Spielberg/Hanks

This is really exciting! A worthy companion to Band of Brothers and The Pacific. Can't wait!

Is Band of Brothers any good?

All points seem right to me; the last one seems also to reflect the reality of island fighting from what I've seen on screen and the few vets I spoke with who would talk about it. Still, I liked The Pacific and read the several books that were the basis for the story line. All good reads, btw.

What movie was this Tiget Tank mockup built for?

That replica is wonderful. Hope it still exists for some future project.

What movie was this Tiget Tank mockup built for?

Don't know but glad to see this instead of those dreadful US Patton or Chaffee tanks usually painted up to serve. I can only recall that Kelly's Heroes made any real attempt to use a Tiger 1, real or mock up, and it was very good. The dreadful "Battle of the Bulge" was spoiled by faked up US...

Sold! Hitler memorabilia goes to Argentine buyer

Scotrace: On the other hand, it was some good luck your dad, like mine, came back home with these souvenirs, alive, to father us. That's pretty good luck. The flotsam and jetsam of defeated tyrannies is for me, and others, the satisfying reminder that these bad guys lost. We can laugh at their...

Sold! Hitler memorabilia goes to Argentine buyer

Looked at this online. I was surprised that I had actually spoken to the seller many years ago. (Not about Goring's silk unmentionables or Adolf's sock drawer). I hope those XXL drillies have a GI boot print square in the middle.

Is Band of Brothers any good?

I wondered if the OP was trolling. Of course this is a wonderful miniseries. I felt entitled to go to the reunions after watching the whole thing. The Pacific is as good, in its way. They're as close to 'being there'that we'll get. I'd throw in the 'Winds of War' and 'War and Remembrance'...

I think this is one of the squirmiest horror scenes ever. Who doesn't fear the dentist anyway? "...you really should take better care of your teeth...."

New Blade Runner Movie NOT a remake!

It's a worthy project. Be prepared for a MAJOR investment on the better, screen-accurate clothing and props. The shoes will be very hard to find: early '80's Adidas referee shoes.http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=43425&highlight=Blade+Runner You can get a lot of info over on the replica...

New Blade Runner Movie NOT a remake!

I thought of Blade Runner a couple of months ago when I looked up and saw a blimp circling Cincinnati with a huge TV screen on the side, pitching dish TV or somesuch. "Begin a new life in the Offworld colonies..."

New Blade Runner Movie NOT a remake!

I"ve been monitoring this possible Blade Runner project for years and saw last year that Harrison Ford had signed on, but Scott wouldn't direct (Denis Villeneuve will) but produce. Google 'Harrison Ford Blade Runner 2' and you'll get lots of hits with info on casting. Ford's signed as supposedly...

    Indiana Jones V

I"ll pile on and say I prefer the OP's idea of an academic 'CEO' role for Harrison Ford. It's called a 'high concept' in Hollywood, isn't it? Too bad you may not have an agent to do lunch and pitch this and snag some serious jack for your brainstorm. As a side note, I always hate to see the...

One of Olivier's most interesting roles, for me.

Folks you love to hate! Tell us your Favorite Film Villains!

Doesn't this choice change, moment to moment, for most of us? As a younger feller, I'd have said Old Man Potter from "It's a Wonderful Life"; Now, he's a hero and I root for him. 'Best' bad guy: Colonel Nathan Jessup, A Few Good Men. So much arrogance and pent up rage.

The Most Interesting Man in the World

I thought this campaign struck the right note of parody and fun. It spawned swarms of fan-generated lines for the character and it didn't hurt that it was a rare example of a clever ad campaign that successfully messaged the product.
