I nice turn of events. My Akubra Capricorn arrived on the doorstep today, and I mentally prepared myself to suffer until Father's Day, as the lid is a gift from the wife and kids for that occasion.
I decided to take out my frustration on the lawn, and lo and behold, my two sons come to me in...
Jakob, that Old Spice is hard to beat! I just scored some original Shulton aftershave and talc from the 50's, it should be here soon. I'd already aquired some pre-plastic bottle P&G AS and cologne. The generic really does come very, very close to the original Shulton scent!
Tonight...
Maybe the gray Capricorn used to be the Kayman? [huh]
On the other thread about Aloha shirts and fedoras, Bob C posted that his Capricorn was getting less plastic looking with time....IIRC Bob had said he was unhappy with the hat because of the plastic look.
I'm interested in hearing...
Jakob, happy birthday! I feel compelled to point out that I have soaps older than you...;)
Tonight:
40's SS
Dorco ST301
DeLong Badger brush
VDH Deluxe soap
I went with my standard pre shave - warm water wash with Palmer's olive oil soap, then more Palmers applied to the beard and...
I see more hats in my area, a bit North of Seattle.
I'm no longer surprised if there is another hat at the grocery store if I stop on my way home, and it's often a fedora, but I still see more outback and safari style lids. Lots of newsboy caps.
I think the warm weather will mean a...
Rain resistance is my main reason for going plastic. I think the only time you'd have to worry about a Capricorn changing shape would be from extreme heat.
Awesome Capricorn on the Cap'n, but I think it should be gray.
As to the shoes....it's tough. Boat shoes with socks? Uhhh.....
I really ought to wear my saddle shoes and argyle socks just to be contrary.
Instead I went with sneaks and those stupid white ankle sock.
My Capricorn is on it's way, but it's going to be a Father's Day gift! :eusa_doh:
Since "Straw Hat Day" for me is May first, when the summer dress code kicks in ( "walking" shorts, collared shirts, but no sandals) I had to grab something quick, so I spent $10 on a cheap straw golf hat with...
I'm pretty sure our hat retrieving lounger was in the legal right.
I'm also pretty sure that I'd feel good about doing what he did.
I'm also equally sure that had the situation turned sour, I'd have felt pretty ridiculous bleeding out on sidewalk over a hat, or watching somebody else do...
I'd say the situation ended well. Punk got punked, and no harm done.
I'd also say that if you are in for a penny you're in for a pound, and while this story has the happy ending that we all can admire, let's suppose that the punk makes a split second decision that he can't back down in front...
Nice stuff posted recently. Jakob's pics are superb, as always.
I've been acquiring a few razors...recently shaved with a Fatboy ($5 at an antique shop!) a Bostonian, an Aristocrat and a Sheraton...
Tonight's gear will be:
Ball End Tech
Dorco ST-301 blade
Delong "Black Badger" brush...
Tom's of Maine mint cream
Delong Black Badger Brush
1942 Schick Injector, drugstore Schick blades
Four passes
Witch Hazel
Dollar Store Old Spice clone AS
Amazing shave. The lowly injector has become the razor most likely to deliver a BBS shave for me. I don't enjoy using it like I do...
Might snow this weekend in Seattle. Go figure.
If you wear a straw before the first day of Spring....well, you know what they say about people like that.
:p
Red Tip Superspeed
Dorco ST-301
VDH deluxe soap
Tweezerman brush
Three passes, BBS, on little weeper on the chin where I zigged when I should have zagged.
I'm starting to think that Red Tip SS is "The Razor" for me.
Somebody linked a 1957 article on the science of shaving over at Badger and Blade, and I thought I'd give the suggested prep a try. I was skeptical about anything approaching the effectiveness of my somewhat cumbersome hot towel over lather for two minutes prep, but the last couple shaves with...
