What's Your Take on Modern Men's Fashion (Not Talkin About Tieless Busi- Casual Crap)

I am being completely serious, and do not appreciate your tone. The point I am trying to make is that your two complaints (1. Insufficient variety in men's dress, 2. New/trendy items not being considered formal) address completely different issues. Men have an enormous variety of dressing...

What's Your Take on Modern Men's Fashion (Not Talkin About Tieless Busi- Casual Crap)

I'm not sure I understand why this upsets you so much. Formality is inherently conservative. It does change, but necessarily slowly. If it's rules were constantly changing to accommodate the new and trendy the entire purpose of having a commonly understood set of conventions would be lost. The...

    Moving To South Carolina

Beginning 12. August I will be in Columbia, SC, working on my Master's degree. If any members are familiar with the area, I would greatly appreciate suggestions for things to see and do. I have not spent any great time in the South since I lived in Atlanta six years ago, and I'm very excited...

    Rope Shoulders on Canali Suits

It depends on the wearer's build, no? Some men benefit from that shoulder construction, others do not. I, for example, am both tall and slope-shouldered, and my face is long and narrow. I tend to prefer a more natural shoulder, which I understand to be the best style for my build.

    Victorian Era Fiction

It's not strictly Victorian, but it's still set in British India and still powered by steam, so I recommend S.M. Stirlings's The Peshawar Lancers. Also not Victorian, but delightful: Girl Genius.

    What makes you feel vintage?

Using the things (pens, typewriter, briefcase, jacket) that belonged to my grandfather. Doing my laundry with a washboard, which I find oddly relaxing.

    Manners/Etiquette

I fear this tactic would be far more effective in Japan than in America, for it relies on the offending party having a sense of shame.

What is your vintage dream purchase??

I'd probably buy a grand hotel, preferably in Europe. The Sacher comes to mind.

Fabulous Fountain Pens - Golden Era classics you can use today!

I have an Esterbrook Dip-Less inkwell and pen on my desk. It's technically a dip pen, although it has a feed. Apparently they were popular in Congress.

    Fashion shift...

I remember being teased in elementary school because I didn't realize I was supposed to curve the brim of my new ballcap. Now I look around the city and see: Another good example: http://www.youdamnkid.com/d/20061107.html

I'll run a selection by you before I post it, then. This may be some time, as I still haven't finished the book myself.
