I remember back in the early '90s they had a store in an old building in downtown Seattle. It was kind of an interesting place.
I also remember in about 1979 purchasing a "Army Air Force Cadet" ring out of the Cockpit catalog. It was solid silver and had the AAF wing and prop logo on the...
Feraud,
My G&B M422A Navy jacket is a size 40 and fits me well. I would normally wear a 42 in most jackets. In a genuine issue Navy G-1, I would wear a 44.
So I would say from my experience and what I have heard, with G&B jackets you need to go down about one size.
I would say that the A-2's in the outdoor photo are a lighter caramel brown to medium russet brown color. If you look at the pilot on the far left, he has dark brown hair. His A-2 is noticeably lighter in color than his hair is. All the A-2's in this photo are a light to medium brown russet...
Hi Smithy,
Thats great information about the Norwegian fighter pilots and the fact a number of them wore A-2's. I love it when new facts like this pop up. Also, thanks for the photos.
I noticed that the horsehide appears to be relatively thin and wrinkles up easily----this is something I...
I have a Flight Suits/ Gibson & Barnes M422A Navy jacket and it is very nice---well constructed with beautiful goatskin.
I have never owned one of their A-2's, but I have spoken with a number of people who have, and they praised them a lot. Personally, I would lean towards the Flight Suits...
JRaptor,
Here are some photos of that reddish original 1401 I mentioned. I emailed the owner when this jacket was listed on ebay a year or two ago, and he said the jacket was actually more reddish than the photos represented.
You can see in the photos where the outer red color has worn off...
Hi there Tarheel-----another "newbee" like me!
Regarding your 1911 comment. I love'm too. Currently I have a WWII manufacture 1911A1 made by Ithaca, a 1970's era Combat Commander, a full size Colt Combat Government and I am in the process of saving up to buy a Springfield Custom Shop target...
Scot,
In regards to the zip in your 1401, it definitely is a WWII era NOS Talon. And they were definitely used in original 1401's----not just Crowns.
As far as color goes, one of my 1401 ELC's is russet brown like yours, but the other is more reddish just like the one reviewed on Acme...
