    Diner Menus

@Widebrim Good list and I think you could probably add that restaurant downtown that has never closed - Hmm.. The Pantry I think it is.

    Diner Menus

I remember back in the 1940s that some restaurants charged 25 cents for Western Beer and 35 cents for Eastern Beer. I suppose transportation was more expensive back then or maybe it was a status thing to drink beer brewed in the East. I was too young to drink so I don't know. The nice scans...

favorite cars of the golden era

I usually don't reply to my own posts, but I have a bit of an error above. The 1936 Cord was an 810 and it was called an 812 in 1937. It was the same car, in fact, some left over '36 cars were sold as an 812 - a practice that was also used my some British imports in the 60s and 70s. The...

Ladies, what is the ideal male for you?

I love that #5 - thanks for the chuckle. Cheers, Jim.

Radial Wave Shades - When were they introduced?

I can't really add much except to say I think they look great.

favorite cars of the golden era

I have a framed poster of a cutaway of a 1931 16 cylinder Cadillac dual cowl phaeton on my wall. A very impressive beast as is the art work, The poster did not cost a lot - wish I could say the same about the framing. For what that car must have cost when it was new, I think I would have...

favorite cars of the golden era

I believe that you misremembered the name as the only thing that Packard and Cord had in common that I can think of is that they both built some very nifty automobiles in the 1930s. The last Cords were built in 1936 and 1937 and were the 810 and 812 model. They were the same except the 812...

Pairing saddle shoes with a suit

I would wear certain colors of saddle shoes with a very casual suit such as seersucker or pincord. And I have worn black and burgandy saddles with a tweed suit. Saddles might look okay with a corduroy suit too.

The Ford also has frenched headlights, the hood ornament removed, undoubtedly the same with the trunk, something added to the front bumper for the license plate, and if it had it any chrome on the side, it was removed. It may have been the low priced model without side trim. I can't identify...

favorite cars of the golden era

It looks like the chrome headlight surrounds might be original - LOL - and that is hard to tell from the photo. I agree that it is not bad for a custom although I don't care much for led sleds like I did when I was young and they were new. I think the biggest ascetic error that folks make...

favorite cars of the golden era

I believe the best looking cars ever made were built in the 1930's. They also had some nice colors and some of the cars looked good to me in two tone paint jobs which I never thought later cars did. The Tatra is an interesting car, but I wonder about it's handling with the weight of a...

    50's and earlier landscaping

I think a great many of those used for dividing walls in this area fell down in the 1994 earthquake.:)

    Matt Deckard Apparel

The cost of phone calls is one of the few 'bargains' I can think off off hand. In 1962 I made a call from London to San Jose, Calif. and the cost was $25.00 for 3 minutes. My best memory is that $25.00 would buy 3 or 4 OCBD RTW shirts and college graduates starting with one of the Big 8 CPA...

    Seersucker Suit

I have a gray and white seersucker jacket that Samualsohn made for me. I prefer the gray/white to blue/white, but expect that I am in the minority.

Trouser back pocket (or lack thereof)

Most of the civilian trousers that I have owned have a button on only the left hip pocket except for the few with flaps and all of them have two flaps and buttons although I have seen a very few with just one flap and button as in your picture. I was in the US Army from 1953 to 1956 and most...

Cheers to Bookster (tweed sample photos)

Thanks for posting those pictures. I think I would pick one of the two golds. On my monitor they look pretty close to the same. Which combination do you prefer?

JFK and the death of the hat

I think to some extent that the era that men's hats vanished depends on regional dress standards and also climate. In the early 50's my Uncle was pretty dapper I thought. He wore things like double breasted pin stripe suits and polka dot bow ties. He lived in So Cal and did not wear a hat...

    Tweed jacket, looks good

That is really a great jacket. I can't imagine anyone getting rid of it unless it is a fit issue.

    Questionable suits and jackets
