Let's See Your Watches! The Vintage Watch Thread.

@ Vintage lover: What a great looking watch! Excellent! The second thing that came to my mind looking at that watch was 'The Jetsons'. :D

'... the effects of resveratrol, an antioxidant found in grapes and red wine, against UV radiation exposure and resveratrol's role as a sensitizer to enhance the impact of radiation treatment ..... Each of the major polyphenols of red wine (resveratrol, quercetin, and catechin) have been shown...

Which decade is the worst in terms of style?

If I compare it to what I see nowadays (at lest here in the towns and cities in the UK), yes. I have elaborated in a bit more detail regarding decades I like and dislike in an earlier post. By no means am I saying I like the styles of the 70s, I prefer earlier decades. At least people -...

    Tips for Single Ladies (1938)

Most steps in that guide seem to me common sense, even now, appart from: "Men deserve, desire your entire attention" - A two way street. "Please and flatter your date by talking about things he wants to talk about" - And yet another two way street. I am afraid a male individual that...

    One seriously cool Mexican

I would not know this for certain. It is indeed a slightly obscure movie, although quite humourus, but maybe that is why it isn't so well known. As I have grown up on the continent, I am very used to seeing Terrence Hill and Bud Spencer western comedies, which are usually terribly silly.

    Personal Libraries

I LOVE books! When I lived nearer to London I spent days and days in the hidden away 2nd hand book stores (in between visits to conveniently placed pubs). All my books are factual: Clothing History, General History, Design of all kind, Music, Referrence ... etc etc ... Only exception...

    One seriously cool Mexican

Charles Bronson, even though American, often played Mexicans or half Indians because of his looks. Yul Brynner does well playing a Mexican ... I too very much enjoy western movies, favourites being: 'My name is nobody' and 'Once upon a time in the west' (both of which have also excellent...

Which decade is the worst in terms of style?

Quite frankly, anything from the 70s backwards is better than what attacks our eyes when wandering amongst 'modern' humans.

And again you think the same way, I keep explaining to people that jack russells are 'Big dogs in a small body'. :) You are correct: he is a Parson Jack Russell.

Eat it together and none of you will notice! :D On the other hand, it may be done deliberately :whistling Again on garlic: It is also a perfect way of keeping warm. When I lived in Switzerland it used to bridge the lack of heating, together with red wine

    Loungers' Pets

That made me chuckle :D We call ours 'little terrierist' ... It is the moodiest little creature I have ever met. One time sweet as sugar, next moment a mischevious little critter. I never wanted a small dog in the first place, but alas, he landed on our doorstep (some years ago). He...

    Wifebeaters?

Reading his entire post, I would say it was a sarcastic reply to the comment made by the cashier. My grandfather always wore a 'wifebeater' (I never knew that this is what they are called!) under his shirt and suit. I think it makes perfect sense in cold weather. But openly displayed...

Cures for the Ailments of Yesteryear

Thank you. The strangest treatment I remember was when I had scarlet fever (aged 5ish) and was given coca-cola once a day. I was never allowed to drink it otherwise. I still do not know to this day why, appart from the fact that originally, coca cola appears to have been a medicine.

    Show off the sports coats.

Not enough credit to your curves ... If I may: I looked at this photo for some time. From my point of view, the jacket needs wider shoulders, longer sleeves (as you mentioned), more room around the hips. You appear to have a gentle V shape torso, which is not emphasised properly with your...

It does not leave my mind .... Jish1969, I thank you for posting these images. This car does not leave my mind! :eusa_doh: Can you, or anyone else, supply me with more information? When googling for "lincoln zephyr 1939" the 'ordinary' model appears to turn up 90% of times. Was this...

    Collar up?

I would agree with that. Personally I wear collar up with most garments that have a collar, firstly because I do not like the back of my neck bare, not even in summer and secondly because, as said above, it looks 'tame'.

Vinegar and Coca-Cola That ALWAYS works for me. In my childhood, when I was living with my Nan (and she told me that is what they did to her when she was young): For colds: 2 woolly socks soaked in vinegar, put on your feet, wrap the feet with the cold, smelly socks in plastic bags (or...
