I'm not sure the model name but Stetson makes a western style hat, just like the Open road, but with an unbound, stiff brim. I've shaped mine from the original Cattlemen's crease to a tear drop fedora style, just like my OR. Other than the stiff brim, it's hard to tell the difference from afar.
I have one that looks just like it and like it very much. Though, since I got a St. Regis in gray I don't wear it that often now. By the way, the prices look about right to me.
Not too long ago, TCM did a Boston Blackie marathon and I watched or recorded and watched most of them. They were from the 30's through the early 50's. Always as a jewel thief who had given up crime and acted as a detective, but always under suspicion. Pretty good movies.
I'd not noticed this thread before and, frankly, am surprised I read it all the way through. I don't use the term myself, and don't know its origin, but I do not that "bash" is an alternate word meaning indentation or dent. I had always assumed that was its origins in hat talk.
Most cavalry in the modern US Army wear cavalry hats made by Stetson. If you look on the numerous sites that represent the various active cavalry units, many have links to Stetson deals on these hats.
My camel St. Regis is pristine in 7 1/8 and I got it on the bay with the original box for less than $150. The Gray one was in excellent condition and went, again on the bay, for less than $130. The black one started a bit more beaten and it was less than $60 and with a bit of work is now equal...
This is driving me crazy. A week or so ago there was a thread posted that showed illustrations form old style books and articles on coordinating colors. I've looked and looked and can't find it again. Can someone help me?
I also wear jump boots with my TRUs in the State Guard. I concur with all the comments. I've had mine now for more than 10 years and would not part with them.
Though I watch the original almost every time it's on, I recorded the series anyway. I greatly enjoyed it, as usual. The time period between the movies gives a running view of dress and deportment, both conventional and alternative. When I grow up, I want to be William Powell as he portrays Nick...
Consensus? It doesn't sound like it. I love my medium gray Stetson St. Regis Homburg and it has a black ribbon and brim. I consider it very dressy, but, of course, that's just me.
Just an update. I got my Stetson St Regis homburg from Optimo earlier this week. It went for a cleaning and a new edge ribbon. It came with a gray edge, but I asked them to replace it with black to match the main ribbon. It came back in perfect condition and I love it. Pictures to follow. I'll...
I knew he looked familiar. I have Jackson, Lee, Stuart, William B. Bate, Todd Carter and the VMI boys at New Market. Gray is a very good color, as is butternut.
