I got into wet shaving about a year ago. I'm using my late father's 1955 Gillette DE razor and after trying dozens of shaving creams from different brands have it down to a top 3 list:
1) Queen Charlotte Soaps-any of the creams
2) T&H 1805
3) Nancy Boy Signature
I've based that ranking...
**You nailed it. It's quite likely it went to a Japanese collector/repro clothing company owner who will use it as a template for a "new" item or to hang as a trophy piece on the office wall.
-They are nice, but I just bought a pair of the LVC repros of this 1944 version for $100 + shipping. A little more compatible with my pocketbook at the moment... :)
It should be here any day now. I would have preferred a dark forest green or navy blue, but I think I got it at a good price considering he's going to eventually sell them for $700. Diamond Dave sent me a pic of the original ad of the jkt this one was based on (hope he doesn't mind me sharing it...

A lot of these mega-old Levis were actually dug out of the ground in old mining camps. I guess they were kept they way they were found as washing/cleaning would probably further damage the fabric.
The vintage 50s clothing market is weak now, so prices are down, but your estimate is about right (I'd say $150-$300)...all depends who is willing to pay what!
