I came across this thread while web searching and the last post isn't too old, so I hope bumping it is OK. All of the fedoras I own right now have a teardrop crease. I haven't seen too much else though. Can someone point me to some information, maybe with pictures, of the various types of hat...
I see you've already made a decision, but I'll comment anyway. Your description (which I didn't quote here) sounds exactly like the hat I just got, except mine's gray; two pictures of it in are the new hat thread a few pages back from the current end, if you're curious to see it. I think I...
I hope you don't mind one more picture of my newest hat. The one I posted a few days ago (a few pages back) was taken inside the store before purchase. The color looks darker than that in person though. So I took a shot of it on my white table, and included the extra feathers the store tossed...
I think most of the time I put my hat on by what the original post called "crowning". I try not to squeeze in on the pinch too much when doing so though.
I think I usually wear my fedoras tilted a bit forward and sideways. They're shorter brimmed ones though, and I've got a wider brimmed one coming. I'm not sure if I'll pull the wider brimmed as far down forward as I do with the shorter brimmed ones, but I'll probably keep a bit of a sideways tilt.
Yes, it was certainly nice of her to do that. I don't think she planned this, but since she found out about the hat store and knew I wanted a wider brimmed fedora, she decided to take a look. She actually narrowed it down to two hats, and I had to help pick which one I'd get. At ~$150 each...
The hats I normally wear are all the same style (fedoras) in different colors and materials. I do have some other ones (like a cap or two), but don't wear them much. I wouldn't mind having other styles for the extra variation they would offer, but it's been a little hard to find a hat style my...
My wife's on a business trip right now, and found a hat store there. She went to look for a new hat for me, and after talking with me, the clerk, and sending some photos, we picked this one:
IIRC what my wife and the clerk said correctly, it's a fur felt Stetson fedora, charcoal gray...
I picked up two more modern, short-brimmed fedoras today. Nothing special, just American Rags from Macy's. The black straw one is on the left and the gray pinstripe one is on the right. (The gray is linen/rayon, FWIW.)
I got two modern straw fedoras around a month ago in preparation for the warmer weather. It's been warm enough here lately that I've been wearing these straw hats for a little while now.
For me, it's pretty much like GWD originally posted. I didn't get a fedora specifically because of a movie/actor or wanting to recreate an older style of dress. It was more because my wife and I both liked how it looked on me; my mother, too, actually -- my parents were with us when we found...
FWIW, I remember reading that the JFK hypothesis is false, because he did wear a top hat at his inauguration. A quick web search turned up snopes.com's JFK's Hat article, which debunks the myth and includes photos. The NPR article's position seems reasonable thought. As Fletch and the article...
Thanks for the responses. It sounds like this combination is fine, and using it may give my blazer some more use. I don't think it will become a regular thing for me, like wearing a hat has become, but it will be nice to have as an additional option.
Blazer/Sportcoat with Polo Shirt?
I recently saw this post at the Art of Manliness, How to Dress for the Kentucky Derby, which has a nice graphic showing four different styles of dress. The last one, with a sport coat and polo shirt was a general combination that I never really considered. I...
Taking a quick look, I think I have:
2 suits
14 ties (of various types, I didn't check)
1, maybe 2 pairs of dress shoes
1 overcoat
1 trench coat
1 sport coat / non-suit jacket
1 vest
And they're all modern. I don't think I have any real vintage clothing, though some of my stuff is...
I didn't realize there was a separate thread here specifically for straw hats. I got two modern ones recently and posted pictures of them in the general "Post New Hats Here!" thread. If you want me to post them here, I can, but for now, I'll just link to my post over there:
my two new straw...
Yes, that's the one. I do have some pictures of me in it, none in formal clothes though, which would probably look the sharpest. And I've had trouble getting one I really like. But since you requested a picture, I guess I can post one. I'll go with this casual dress one taken at an event in...
I have a cheap modern cap that I got within the last year (I forget when). My wife and I were out, looked at the hats in one of the stores, and my wife liked this one so I got it. I'm sure it's nothing special, but since my others are fedoras, it's nice to have a different type of hat available.
I only wear two rings -- my wedding ring (with a Claddagh design) on my left hand, and a college ring on my right hand. I do own some others, but I almost never wear them anymore. I don't want to wear too much, so one ring per hand is basically my limit. With the wedding band permanently...
I bought a leather fedora/trillby last year, and have been wearing it pretty regularly. I've even gotten a few compliments on it. At the time, I didn't really know what was traditional material for hats. But I had been hoping to find something that my wife thought looked good on me so that...
