    I strongly recommend shaping with steam only. It is very forgiving, and can you can resteam often until you achieve your desired shape. I don't like to use water, as it can distort the shape so that the wetted part is tighter, or looser, than the unwetted part of the hat.

    If you take this new Strat and ruin the block and push the crown all the way up, it also measures 5-1/2 inches. At least with my ruler from National Hatter's Supply from 1936.

    being it's not an open crown, there would be no open crown specs listed. In fact, today crowns are so standard, that manufacturers normally don't even list crown heights, just brim widths.

    My brim measures 2-9/16. I believe there is a 1/16 margin of error allowed when manufacturing, but I am not positive.
