Hmm... I can't really tell from these details and pictures, except that the print looks a lot more 1970s than 1940s. Can you explain more about the belt? A common difference between 1940s and 70s-does-40s dresses is that 40s dresses virtually always have a true buckle, whereas 1970s dresses...
I agree; I think it's a dressing gown/robe from somewhere in those years. But it buttons left over right, so it's a MEN'S robe. That also explains the broad shoulders and total lack of waist shaping.
I'm not really sure. The way it's displayed it's hard to see how it hangs or the shape of the pockets. But the little ladies in the prints are definitely early 40s in silhouette, not 50s. That's a very good sign. If you accessorize it right I think it'll be just fine for the 40s. :)
That is a really cute hat! I think it's an excellent retro design from either the late 70s or the early 80s. My mother lets me wear one of hers that is very similar, and she bought it sometime in 1980-1983 when she was working at Tandy.
Hers is more of a 40s shape because it has an angular...
I agree, the label at least looks very 40s. The design otherwise could be very 50s, except like Marla points out, it's fairly fitted. (Unless it's clipped to the mannequin, of course.) Most of the 50s cardigans seem roomier in the body, whereas in the 40s cardigans seem more like sweaters that...
Hmm, that's intriguing. I'm having a hard time visualizing it. It sounds somewhat like a couple of seamed lace-cup bras I got last year. They're underwires with a very firm mesh band, but the cups are only lightweight lace and fine net mesh. (Lots of mesh means as cool as possible, very...
White and silver. The sun is too brutal here to consider any darker color.
For a while, there were six cars at our house. White Camry ('96), white Camry ('00), white Camry ('01?), silver Camry ('09), silver Corolla ('01), and white Chevy Suburban ('97). :D Oh, and my grandmother has a white...
Has anyone tried the CC09 bra from What Katie Did?
It's supposed to be a specifically 1940s bra, so not a true bullet bra, but still pointier than modern ones. The sizing also appears to be slightly different from that of their bullet bras.
I've been searching this thread and the whole PR...
Then maybe try searching for "ribbing." Regular knit just looks like a plain sweater, just smaller loops. Ribbing actually has up-and-down rows, and it's usually/often sold in long tubes instead of fabric yardage.
This is the first new one I've bought in a long time. :) I love the interesting shaped waist, and the jacket with the short sleeves and waist length.
I just picked up some medium/heavy black wool flannel, too, so I think I'll use that for my first version of this. It's such easy stuff to...
I don't know of a kitchen thread, but it might be worth starting a new one in, say, Classic Era or something; there are quite a few people who've worked with interiors and they'll probably know a lot more!
My humble opinion - NOT an expert - is that the cabinets and tile look OLD. Old as in...
Ditto that! I was really impressed by it (although the cover art leaves a lot to be desired) when I read the sample chapters. It was very engaging and interesting, not so straightforward as MHI [seems] at first.
Yay! Mine arrived late Friday afternoon, and I finished it late Saturday night. I've never actually read Lovecraft and I totally see those elements - I'm almost in the mood myself! And if you didn't hear, the rough draft of Monster Hunter Alpha is finished. :eusa_clap
