    Vintage Weddings

Well my big day is still pretty far away, but we booked a venue for the ceremony and reception all in one! Since it's beautiful AND historic, I thought I'd share. It's going to be at the Canton Club, which is over 100 years old and was designed by the architect who did the ballroom on the...

    "Brand New" 1950's Home!

Ahhh! It so cute!! On the outside it looks an awful lot like the nice little neighborhood I grew up in! Most of the houses were/are owned by their original owners and have been very well maintained! I'd love for the fella and I to luck into a starter home like that!!

    Snot Rags?

I prefer them to Kleenex but don't use them everyday. I have a bag of old, well worn hankies on reserve for very special occasions. They were my Papa Glen's. He carried one and used it everyday and something I very much remember from my childhood. They aren't fancy but they were his. I'm gonna...

    making your nails strong

I have this conversation fairly often, I'm a nail tech by night. When my clients make the switch from artificial or just want stronger nails, I recommend Forte Horsetail Nail Strengthener by Cuccio. Works really well and it's formaldehyde and toluene free. I swear by it.

    Using the saucer

We were just talking about this at Thanksgiving dinner! My boyfriend's father said several adults he knew when was a young child in western Kentucky drank their tea this way! My mother said she also vaguely remembered family members from that geographical area drinking tea that way. I then...

Ladies - a cashmere scarf for a gift -- good idea?

I think it would be very nice! Last year my BFF gave me cashmere gloves and I ADORE them! They're very well made for a higher end retailer, but she is quite the bargain hunter and got them at Gabriel Brother's...which might be a good place to start since I see you live in Ohio. If not Macy's...

    Vintage Jewelry

Craig's Personal Jewelers, Canton Ohio (http://www.craigpersonaljewelers.com). Beautiful things, great staff, fair prices for collectible/fine jewelery. Not a "walk in and see things in glass cases like Zales at the mall" type of joint. Call ahead, let them know what you are interested in, if...

    Cross-traffic in vintage communities

Wow! I guess I should thank my lucky stars I live in the Midwest. Most of the folks I know that are into rockabilly are just as much immersed in vintage living and concerned with remaining period correct as my fellow loungers who may have an interest in an earlier era. It seems I’m even more...

    Cross-traffic in vintage communities

I feel pretty comforatable saying rockabilly isn't a disease, and as that rockabilly fans tend to enjoy my bf's own brand of "mid-western swing" we've spent a lot of time attending events lumped into that category (even though I would argue the accuracy of the categorization of many bands placed...

    A handsome first family

It kinda bugs me that I've noticed she doesn't wear stockings though. I'm sure she HAS, and may often, just not when I've happened to see her in key photos and interviews. Obviously, this photos is more casual but I thought it odd she didn't have them on in the 60 Minutes interview that was on...

Do you wear curlers in front of your Significant Other?

My bf HATES the curlers. He pokes fun everytime he sees me in them, but I still wear them in front of him. Sometimes, you gotta do what ya gotta do. [huh]

do you have a vintage partner? Show us your mate

Thanks Marzipan! Now, if he'd just put a vintage ring on my finger, we'd be all set to move all the treasures we've collected in that 50's ranch I've been dreaming of! :D I do get the feeling that it's not TOO far away though.

do you have a vintage partner? Show us your mate

I'm very lucky to have my boy. We've been together for over six years now and even though it sounds a little strange, we've kinda grown up together in that time and our tastes for vintage things have evolved and become more refined. I think there's a HUGE difference between who were were in our...

    That nasty vintage underarm funk.

Ugggh! I know just what you are talking about. I had a super cute dress that had the armpit funk something awful. The funk and I went to war and in the end, I won. I hand washed it twice in the sink, and had it dry cleaned but it STILL smelled awful. Since it was almost a lost cause, I figured...

    Halloween Costumes

Not golden era by any stretch of the imagination, but I plan on going as Joey Ramone this year. I WANTED to go as Joey Ramone and Riff Randle but the b.f. wants no part of any costume where he has to wear a wig. Sometimes he's just no fun. :(

    Nudie Suits

While I can safely say I don't know a soul who is fortunate enough to have the means to own a real Nudie suit, a dear friend of mine in Columbus claims to have lucked into two Nudie shirts for $15.00 a piece at an out of the way antique place. She always has had the best luck so I'm inclined to...

    Dust Bowl history

One of the folks from that program, Timothy Egan, wrote a great book on the subject called "The Worst Hard Time: The Untold Story of Those Who Survived the Great American Dust Bowl ". I think it's well worth the read and would reccomend it to anyone who is into dust bowl history.

    The Marilyn Monroe Look

It's a really handy book to have anyway, but in "Making Faces" by Kevyn Aucoin there is a "how to" on very Marilyn inspired make-up. It might be of use to you.
