I think that the interesting part of this lies in the fact that there is an inherent conflict where an item, be it a hat, or a classic guitar, etc., is something that is both functional and ultimately collectible...probably more so with a hat, which as part of one's apparel, is unavoidably a...
To actually answer your question, I have had a Stetson Downs for just about a year now. It was my "first" fedora in a long time, and it got me back into wearing hats. Since getting the Stetson, I have gotten an Akubra Campdraft, an Akubra Banjo Paterson, and a mid-grade Panama. I wear the...
Once again, thanks to all for the insights and suggestions. I have ordered a Banjo Paterson in the fawn color. While I like the idea of another "fedora", and expect that I would very much like the Fed IV, I think that the more "country" Banjo Paterson will better fill my present expectations...
Nothing is easy...... or fair, apparently! OK, so you got me thinking, and last night I read everything I could about the Banjo Paterson.....almost convinced myself that here in rural northern New Jersey that might really be what I need to complement my Campdraft, Stetson and the older black...
You know, that's a good point. I tend to lose sight of the conversion factor from metric to inches. The "difference" is only 1/4", and even at the front-to-back widest it is still narrower than my Campdraft is all around. I guess I had the impression that it would give it an obvious elongated...
Kirk, nice, that height puts it right in the sweet spot. Duper, saw that thread, but I really don't see me ever having too many more hats, I'd like to have something decidedly different than another CD. The slightly narrower brim wouldn't overcome the narrow ribbon, and other attributes that...
Very helpful responses so far. Was looking for comparisons by those that own at least two of the contenders, and that is what I'm seeing. Thanks.
As to the Fedora, I understand the felt is very soft. I see that as a positive. EH, how long have you had yours, and has it seen much rain? You...
Hi all. I had posted this in the "Ask a Question" section, but did not get too much feedback (thanks to those who did respond) so I thought I'd try again.
I'm looking for my next hat. Based on some good advice here last Spring I bought a Silverbelly Campdraft. I got the Campdraft to wear "all...
Hi all. Looking for my next hat. Have a Silverbelly Campdraft and a graphite/carbon Stetson Downs. Had the Stetson first as a "dress" hat; got the Campdraft to wear "all the time" intending that it get that worn in look. The Akubra is a delight, but it is so nice that I wear it to work and...
I just bought my first Tilley the other day at REI, an LTM6 Airflow, which I will bring to Colorado on a 3 day rafting fly fishing expedition. Been wearing it around the yard to get used to it. Really comfortable. I hope it holds up as well as they claim. Expect it will see a lot of use this...
Thanks all. Now to resist the urge to splurge. No more hats. Just a Tilley for a planned summer fishing trip. Oh, and maybe a Panama for summer restaurants....I suppose I could really use a dark brown hat, say a Fed IV.......and I really don't have a truly vintage...
OK, here's a try with photos. Took me a while to figure this out.
Here is the hat right out of the box.
The quick bash.
Trying it on.
Into the woods in the rain.
Since then I have found that the hat has a lot in common with my two dogs. It is reliable, it loves riding in my truck...
Normally the bears are hibernating this time of year, but it has been unusually warm this winter. There has been "bear sign" on the trails already.
I don't seem to be able to post pictures because I do not have ennough posts yet (?)

Well, on Feb 12th I ordered a Silverbelly Campdraft from HatsDirect. They shipped it on the 13th, and it arrived yesterday, eleven days later. I thought that was very good service and a quick trip to New Jersey from Australia, considering that there was a holiday in between.
Opening the box I...
OK. Hatsdirect said that they had 1 Campdraft in my size in both Silverbelly and Tawney Fawn. The Silverbelly appears to be the "classic" choice, so I ordered one. Will see if they still have it as of the time of my order.
Thanks for the help.
Bob
Again, thank you for the input.
Edward, thank you for posting the picture of the hat in use. I was just looking for pictures of either hat being worn. Yours gives a good sense of the proportion and color. To my mind the narrower ribbon gives the Campdraft a more casual feel, which is alright...
Hello again.
A change in plans has me here at the computer as opposed to on the highway tonight. Thank you for the advice and opinions so far.
Appears that there is a lot of love for the Campdraft as a veratile and durable hat that is a go to choice for more than a couple of you. I also...
