    Gin Lovers Unite!

An American Gin? My current favorite gin is Bluecoat, distilled in Philadelphia. Beautiful botanicals, and I really like the citrus notes in addition to the blueberries. http://www.bluecoatgin.com/index.htm

I don't think I saw any Alfas here... My 1988 Alfa Romeo Graduate (with Quadrifoglio wheels). Now where are Darhling's Monaco pictures...the Grand Prix is this weekend!

    Show us your vintage home!

Surely nostalgia is part of it. However much of the current development (at least in SE Pennsylvania) is consuming some of the most fertile farmland around. Houses can be built almost anywhere, but food can't be grown almost anywhere - at least, not sustainably. The neo-traditional developments...

    Show us your vintage home!

Perhaps it depends on the setting. There's been a lot of development in my part of Pennsylvania, including a couple of "neo-traditional" attempts. Reasonably sized single family homes, and townhouses (grouped in threes) whose facades are different but clearly relate to each other (in addition...

Bringing service back to Department Stores?

Make the question open ended ? What do you think about "How can I help you?" rather than the closed questions? It's too easy to say "No" to the latter. My .02.

    Khakis - which ones?

Bill's - A Real Factory Store Not sure if all of Bill's are made in Reading, PA - I think they also have a factory in nearby Boyertown. However, there is a real factory store in Reading, co-located with the HQ office. This is not in the same "outlet" center you'll see in other parts of...

Bringing service back to Department Stores?

In addition to all of the above, please have your staff at least acknowledge the presence of a customer, even if they can't get to that person right away. Nothing, but nothing, irks me more than having to wait until what is obviously a personal conversation between two employees (or one and...

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

More on (musical) Sonics Being the resident electronics geek among my friends, I cannot begin to tell you how many times in the mid 80's when CDs were introduced I had to explain why their newly purchased CD player sounded like crap when they connected it to the phono input on their...

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

Smudge Pots, Afternoon Philadelphia Paper, Outhouses... Just getting to this thread - I've read that vineyard owners use smudge pots from time to time to protect just-blossomed vines from late spring frosts... I don't know if the Inky published twice a day, but I do recall the...

Sherwin Williams Paints I have nothing but good things to say about the quality of Sherwin Williams paints. After a disastrous try with Behr (faux texture, from Hope Depot) - I mean, I've never had to call tech support for paint before - we've used nothing but Sherwin Williams. And the...

    Stationery!

Great thread! I too am easily swayed by paper, and have been know to spend too much time in paper/stationery store - especially if they have leather bound folios, journals, and the like. Retrogirl1941, I hope your guy keeps the letters so you can both (and future generations) can enjoy looking...

    Wine Pairings

Unless, you are doing some personal "quality assurance" - for the benefit of your guests of course! Who was it that said "I always cook with wine. Sometimes I even put in the food?" Anyway, the advice to avoid cooking wine is spot on. Let us know how it goes!

    Wine Pairings

What kind of wine is in the wine sauce? I usually try to server a similar wine for drinking that I use in the sauce, though perhaps several steps "better." That is, if I use a California Pinot for the sauce, perhaps I'll serve a Carneros (relatively small region in the southern part of Napa -...

The Sale of NOS Johnnyphi hats begins.

Well "live" auctions, at least like houses like Christie's, also have the notion of proxy bidding. I can submit bids (in writing, by fax) ahead of time with a maximum bid, and I pay only what is necessary to win the lot - similar to ebay - unless of course I am outbid.

The Sale of NOS Johnnyphi hats begins.

Wow Johnnyphi and others - quite the collection and process for a targeted-audience auction. Thanks for the opportunity. My only comment is around the ending time. It seems, that for the 1st threads, the end time for the auction is the same for each hat. A couple of points here: - if one...

    What are you listening to?

Not sure whose rendition, but I once had the good fortune to see Billy Paul in a a small club - and he chose to sing without a mic or amp. What a treat!

Favorite Sinatra Tune/Film - Remembering Sinatra 10 Years After His Passing

How Did All These People Get Into My Room? I just cued up "Live at the Sands" on the turntable. I don't know if I can name an overall favorite, but it's likely the best for various occasions are on this album.
