Akubra sizes: true to the numbers?

The Campdraft in the photo of me is a 63. It is a bit too large, even after several years, and a 63 or even a 64 is my usual size. It is the higher quality felt. It hasn't shrunk or expanded that I can tell. I don't know if you can say they run big or small. I think it varies from hat to hat...

    Shudde Bros. Hatters in Houston

Shudde, as Majormoore said, made a lot of hats. I always assumed they got the bodies from elsewhere, but they made the hats. Shudde made some very nice hats. I have a gorgeous Montecristi from them my father-in-law bought. It has a crazy tight weave and is as light as a feather. The only...

    Compliments and other reactions

Maybe Texans are a little more used to hats. You can still see cowboy hats often enough that hats aren't unusual.

    Sterkowski hats...opinions/experiences wanted please

I can't say anything about their felt hats, but a motorcycle cap I got from them is very well made and was a bargain.

What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

Thanks. hatsRme - I would prefer a little more height in the crown, and would give up some brim to get it. What about redoing the crease from a telescope to a plain Optimo style? That might give you some more height without reducing the brim.

    Milan Mania

Thanks. I have a Biltmore made in Canada that I think is some natural fiber, and I would consider it "decent." It is flexible and breathes. I have a newer Biltmore from Texas and it is obviously plastic. It is super light and airy, but it doesn't feel right, either on the head or in the hands...

Scotch Guard? Scout Felt Hat Protector?

Fur felt isn't waterproof, but some rain won't hurt it. You don't want to allow it to get saturated, and you certainly don't want to let the sweatband to get soaked, but a little time in the rain won't hurt it. If you need to wear it in a drenching rain, a plastic, shower-cap cover is the thing...

Waht do you call the soft straw hats?

Those Sun Body hats are generally soft and pliable. Many or most of the descriptions say they are not stiffened. The are stiffened with some sort of lacquer, when they are.
