    Could black go with anything? Why, or why not?

    Black with brown is very YSL ca. 1970s. Personally, I think of black as a "lazy" color. It doesn't require an eye for complementary colors so just throw it with anything. It has a place, but I find it overused in mostly cliche ways.

    Agreed, the navy would work with blue, gray and black. I do love the pop of the copper, but it would probably not look as good with those colors. I'm keeping a look out for midnight blue ribbon as I don't think of navy as dark enough for what I envision.
