Franklin D. Roosevelt's Trademark Fedora for Sale

It wouldn't surprise me if this item goes higher than that, even. Hard to find anybody who doesn't know who FDR is, and as already stated, this hat was something he was often photographed in. Provenance is pretty reliable, too. FDR was an icon of his time.

I Got The "Brim Too Wide" Blues!

That's a great hat, and looks good on you. Leave it alone. Now then: PLEASE, PLEASE everyone AVOID visiting the SMILEY CENTRAL link in indycop's original post. Smiley Central is a KNOWN spyware loading site. Indycop, I strongly suggest you run a full spyware system scan.

    Public Enemies

I see your point about the box mags. The drum magazine has become synonymous with the old Chicago Typewriter. Funny part is, the 20rd box mags were probably much more commonly used is real life. It's pretty easy to stash a couple of extra mags in a jacket pocket, much easier than a drum! Also...

How about some neckties, gents? More added 3/19 PM

Mingoslim, I sent you a PM about Lot 3.

New Ties and Some Airplane Books!

OK, two more lots of ties and a couple air warfare books for the enthusiasts here. First up, A copy of "B17 Fortress at War", a very cool book and in pretty decent shape as well. This one runs $7.50 plus shipping. Next, both volumes of Jablonski's classic "Airwar", which is probably one...

How about some neckties, gents? More added 3/19 PM

I've come into a rather large number of vintage neckties. Not as large as some of the collections I've seen posted here, but still, a lot of ties. Way too many for me. So out (most) of them go! This is the first lot (Lot I, appropriately enough.). These ties are all 50" long, so can be worn by...

    The Recession and Layoffs Thread

Agreed. And hey, if you think it's bad to not be able to afford private insurance? Try having the words "Cardiac" or "Diabetes" in your medical records. You won't get private insurance (individual) at ANY cost. They simply WILL....NOT....COVER.....YOU. One of the reasons Medical stuff...

    Ebay Boycott! 2/18 - 2/25

I know there are a lot of very, very angry sellers who have stopped listing. I read an interview with E-Bay's new CEO and quite honestly, the guy came across as an arrogant you-know-what. Basically E-Bay has decided that the powersellers are the ones who are making the company all the money (and...

What are your favorite mystery or espionage novels?

I'm a big fan of Rex Stout's Nero Wolfe.[ BTW, for my money the TV series is first rate. It's done like a small theater troupe, with the main characters always played by the same folks, and the secondary roles are played by a small group of recurring actors/actresses in different roles for each...

having the right "physique" for the golden era?

Huh. The only way I'll ever fit into the "physically fit" group is if I saw off a leg.;) Of course, I'm overweight...and not just a little. But I also have a 52" chest, 19 inch calves, and I wear a size 13 shoe. I require 35" sleeves, too. I did a lot of weight lifting when I was younger, and...

    Mysteries of Lake Tahoe

Supposedly there is a B-25 Mitchell bomber at the bottom of Tahoe. Seems they ditched her in the lake while on a training mission. I know they pulled a P-47 Thunderbolt out of an icy mountain lake, similar to Tahoe, in Austria last year. Aside from damage sustained in the crash (her pilot got...

    Would You Squeal?

I had very little problem with throwing bootleggers/illegal copiers under the bus until the Millennium Digital Rights Act passed. This piece of bought-and-paid-for legislation, more or less written by the MPAA and the RIAA and steamrolled through congress with entertainment industry dollars...

What happened to growing your own chow?

I live in NW Arkansas.....some of the poorest farmland you can imagine. Added to which, my home stands under 50-75 foot Oaks and smaller Hickories and Dogwoods. I don't have a yard, as such; I have moss. There is a small patch of grass right near the road, it gets mowed 3-4 times per year...

Drunk at the Christmas Party Warning!

One of the large companies here in NW Arkansas whose name rhymes with Dyson used to hold a large, blowout style Christmas party every year, in a nice hotel with much drinking and general rowdiness. This continued for a number of years, until an executive's wife managed to fall (or...

Hats from beyond the Iron Curtain

The Warsaw Pact wasn't just a "mutual defense" treaty, there were economic and social concerns that were spelled out too. Not only "Brothers in Defense" but "Brothers in production" as well. So you find men wearing Czech hats, East German trousers, Russian underwear and Polish shirts. Mens...

How much stuff did these 40's guys own?

My granddad, who worked on Grand Coulee Dam, mined gold, picked apples, and did who knows what else through the depression to feed his three kids and Grandma, wore blue chambray work shirts, "Big Mac" denims, heavy yellow work boots, and a straw fedora in the summer. In winter, he wore heavy...

OK......So I'm diving in with both feet.....

They're here! They're here! I don't think I did too bad. First, the Monroe turned out to be.....a Monroe. A Beaver Twenty. And a 7 3/8, too, my size. Unfortunately, some mothing is present. The "English Shop" actually turned out to be one of those pesky Royal Stetsons! She left that...

Now Forming! the Campaign Hat Corps

Those railroad tracks look *suspiciously* like USMC issue. When the hat shows up, if the bars have beveled edges, they are Army. If they are just straight edges with no bevels, then they are USMC/USN issue. I could be mistaken, but I believe the Campaign Cover is strictly enlisted gear for...
