Advice needed! Tan suit and black shirt?

Are they imposing a 'black-shirt-only' dress code? If not, I strongly recommend a pale blue or white shirt instead. And, if you cannot deviate, then that dress code needs some serious rework.

How often do you dress vintage/vintage inspired?

I would also like to say that not all vintage ties need to be wide! All of my favorite ties are between 2" and 3 1/4."

Adult men and outsticking (T-/Polo-/Man's-)shirts - a classic controversial point?

Are you referring to wearing untucked, casual shirts? For undershirts at the gym it's necessary, but outside of that all dress shirts should be tucked in.

What do you use to shave?

I've actually found a straight razor cuts too close for me - I get razor burn no matter the angle or sharpness. A double-edge works just right.

Shopping in Thrift/Antique Shops (Let's Hear Your Story)

I will say this: I have had extraordinarily good fortune with suits, ties, shirts, and shoes at my local thrift stores. But hats? Not one blasted thing... I'm planning an excursion to a few vintage shops in the area to see what I can turn up. It would be nice to find a black trilby in my size...

Matching Combinations For Formal Events And Semi - Formal Events?

I would say that a boater might work better for early evening events, or when wearing an ivory dinner jacket; which is also proper in summer or warmer weather. It's probably not as common a practice nowadays (what is?) but perfectly acceptable.

Matching Combinations For Formal Events And Semi - Formal Events?

    1. Homburg for colder months, and a straw boater for the summer. Originally, top hats could also be worn to formal evening events, but today a hat is not a requirement. For your overcoat questions, I would think a nice Chesterfield or similar dark overcoat would work for more formal events -...

    Alternatives to this 36oz peacoat?

Lots of great ones in Kensington Market, Flashback and King of Kensington in particular. I haven't had much luck with suits, but they're teeming with sweaters, outerwear, jackets, and accessories. Even some peacoats I've seen.

    Alternatives to this 36oz peacoat?

I've found long, heavy overcoats in Toronto vintage stores for $50. Funny how shorter coats cost more these days...

Actually spotted 2 today - on a university campus, of all places!

BOTH SIDES OF THE TWEED! - Show us your tweed suits, sport coats and pants

Looks like a Hacking Jacket. I have one quite similar - they're traditionally cut a little longer than a suit jacket, so yours is probably spot-on.

How often do you dress vintage/vintage inspired?

^ Me too, I feel much more comfortable in vintage clothing - simply because the quality is far better. It's possible to find the same level of workmanship today, but it's expensive.

    Show us your TIES

Where do you go to find ties at such prices?! Even in thrift stores, I have never seen a tie go for less than $2-3 apiece.

How often do you dress vintage/vintage inspired?

I always do my best to be well-dressed, and most of my clothes are vintage. The clothes I do own that are newer are all classic styles, and I refuse to wear anything that is low quality. In fact, my insistence on quality construction and fabrics was what first got me interested in vintage styles.

    Post New Hats Here!

My first real hat came in the mail yesterday - a 2 inch brim, mid-brown Dobbs. Not sure what type of fur felt, but probably rabbit. The label looks like 1960s, can anyone confirm?

    Formal Wear Primer

One thing that seems to be less popular these days is the 'black lounge' or 'stroller' jacket worn with plain grey trousers. It's a sharp alternative to a regular suit.

The End of Bond? A long post on Spectre.

Going against the grain: I can't stand any of the Bonds after Roger Moore. To me, the whole series ended in the 80s.

    Stay or Go?

If it's built like a B3, then keep it! If it's a big-store knock-off made in some far away wasteland...give it the boot.
