    Thanks everyone. With the low crown on the modern OR and the other issues raised, I have decided to take Johnnycanuck's advice and go with the Akubra open crown. The search for another vintage hat will have to wait.

    I like the 2 3/4" brim but not sure about the western crown. Anyone ever steam and rebash to something different?

    Its Natural. And it does do exactly that. But often in the opposite way. It looks a bit tan when wearing grey and grey with any brown.

    Well, it's very good quality felt. I have had it for nearly two years. I would guess I have had it on 300 out of the ~700 days I have owned it. I was suspicious of the headband at first, but it is holding up well. I would highly recommend if you can find a color you like in 100%beaver.
