    The wonder of wedding bands

I have a 1940s wedding ring set and love it. I love it symbolizes the love for my husband (I'm a romantic). When I used to work full-time with the public, even though I wore my set, I would still get hit on by men. I don't get it.

    Living the WWII Homefront Life

I haven't started rationing yet but I quit my full-time job last year to be a 1940s house wife (my dream job). I've been dressing like this for 10 years and slowly turning my 1940 bungalow into a time capsule house. Next year I hope to have a victory garden started.

Anyone else interested in trying out ration dieting?

I've heard about it and would really love to. Probably after I give birth I will try it out.

How Much Jewelry Do You Wear?

Everyday I wear my 1940s wedding ring set. On occasion I sometimes wear a pair of pearl earrings, a 1940s watch or my 1940s WWII sweetheart bracelet.

Comments You Get When You Dress Vintage

I usually get "oh I love your dress" "I love your victory rolls" and I usually blush and say thank you. Sometimes I just get glared at some by adults but mainly by kids which doesn't bother me. I remember last year I was at Disney World, my husband wanted to go see a character so I waited...

Excuse me Miss, do you Blog?

I've always wanted to start a blog, but I can never come up with good topics. And I don't think anyone would honestly read it. But you never know.

Old smells, that immeditately transport you back in time?

My grandma used to soak her dentures in Listerine the original yellow formula. So she would always smell like original Listerine. I use it today to remind me of her.

Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime?

Public phones/phone booths, windows in cars you have to roll down, restaurant smoking section, phone landline, manners/etiquette, common sense, home economics class, cursive, old fashioned shoe store, reading from books, children going outside to play, using a paper map, Oldsmobile, walkie...

New Ladies and Gents Step Forward

Hello! My name is Elizabeth! I found the fedora lounge by doing a Google search of people who love vintage as much as I do. I've been a lurker for years and finally made an account. I'm a vintage housewife, a seamstress, a antique dealer, a cosmetologist and a mother. I've been dressing 1940's...

    Cologne and perfume

Besame 1940 is my favorite. They don't make perfume anymore, but it had such a nice vanilla scent. I have one bottle left and I'm saving it. I wore it on my wedding day and whenever I open it up, it reminds me of that day.

    The handwriting of everyday

People back then were taught scripture and cursive in school. They had to use it everyday instead of just writing out in plain text. Nowadays cursive is not taught in schools anymore.

    What Happened....

I wish they came back. I've heard hats disappeared because JFK never wore one so hats fell out of style.

    Terms Which Have Disappeared

I don't know why people don't say "how do you do?" anymore. It just seems so proper and polite. Also, people don't make conversation now a days. It's all about "me". I don't hear the term "swell".

Where should I shop online ?

Etsy is a great site for finding reproduction clothing. Also try Modcloth or Unique Vintage Sometimes I can find a really cute skirt or top on there for cheap. But I usually don't shop on there just because sometimes you get what you pay for. I'd rather save up and spend my money on a few high...

    Dating, Seacoast New England

Hey Abe! You should go to Viva in Las Vegas. They have every year a pin up/rockabilly convention. Maybe you would find someone there. Or maybe a car show? You should search different vintage conventions. There might be a dating site for pin ups.

    What makeup item enamors you?

I love red lipsticks! I used to be a huge Besame Victory Red lipstick fan, but ever since I got pregnant I had to branch out and now I use Maybelline Superstay Matte liquid lipstick in Pioneer. I had to find a lipstick that is kid friendly cause kids are messy :p

What's the best modern electric tool you use for your vintage hair styles.

My hair is already curly so I don't ever use heat on my hair or have to set it, but I do love smoothing my hair out with a Denman Brush to get the tangles out and then I use a boar bristle brush to smooth out the curls.

    Books about the Looks

I bought a used book called Beauty - How To Attain and Retain Beauty by: Home Entertainment Library from 1935. It's such a great book about etiquette, beauty, workouts, etc.

    sensory friendly vintage reproductions?

I'm not a big size, but I've had luck with the brand House of Foxy. There quality is top notch and very authentic to the era you're looking for. They are very expensive and are based in England, but I'd rather pay extra money for top notch quality. I've bought a dress a from them for a wedding...
