Cinch Up Suspenders - Y-back - by Welch

Yep. These are intended for wear with heavyweight winter wool (or heavy canvass) field trousers, . At least, that's how I'd use them. I wear these kind of trousers for my wildlife research and yes, I usually wear braces and a belt. This keeps everything in place when I'm bending, crouching...

Cary Grant's Suit in North by Northwest?

Yes, fairly low-crown and lots of taper, but they look good on him. Here's an atypical hat for Cary:

Cary Grant's Suit in North by Northwest?

Interesting, I wonder if he would corroborate Chris Laverty's history of the suit?

Cary Grant's Suit in North by Northwest?

Remember the virtually indestructible and impeccably tailored suit worn by Cary Grant in North by Northwest? Here is part of that unforgettable scene where Grant is being chased by a crop duster. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g458w2X9uHc An interesting story about this suit can be found...

    The 1920 JAZZ SUIT

Could this be...a Jazz Suit? On eBay: Limited pics and poor description, but it sure looks like it could be a Jazz Suit, most likely a modern interpretation of one. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220873760623&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:US:1123

My New Bespoke Gray Flannels - Pictures! - What Do You Think?

I highly recommend the thornproof Donegal tweed. I have a three-piece "country" suit in this fabric. It will come out of storage in a few weeks. Ahem, I hope it still fits, I put on a few pounds this summer.

My New Bespoke Gray Flannels - Pictures! - What Do You Think?

Beautiful trousers. Interested to know why you opted for belt loops. They drape so much better with braces/suspenders. The waist would be much cleaner without the loops.

Ray Milland's Suit in The Big Clock (1948)

I thoroughly enjoyed the 1948 film noir thriller The Big Clock on Turner Classic Movies last night. Lots of great suits (and hats). Ray Milland stars as George Stroud, a NYC crime magazine editor who is framed for a murder by his tyrannical publishing boss, Earl Janoth (Charles Laughton)...

    3-Piece Seersucker Question

The whole idea of seersucker is staying comfortable in hot weather. A waistcoat rather defeats the purpose and thus it looks a little silly/overdressed to me. That is, unless you are going for the Mark Twain look. If it is hot enough that you are wearing seersucker, why are you wearing...

Always brim down. Brim up, I look like Gabby Hayes.

    Vintage Shorts

I really like the look of Bermuda shorts and knee socks with jacket and tie, as they are worn for business on the Island of Bermuda. Though this would be difficult to pull off anywhere else but there.

Congratulations, Wildblue. That outfit nails it. "Pennsylvania six five thousand!"

    Zoot Suit

I had a couple as a teenager in the mid '50s; not my cup of tea at present.

    Great jacket; horrid fit.

I've always fancied these boating/regatta blazers from the UK. It would be fun to wear one to lake/ocean events here in the US, and this one's connection to Patrick McGoohan's jacket in the classic series The Prisoner makes it even more attractive. But *yucky*OMG*yucky* look at the horrid fit...

Fox brothers vs JJ Mimmis. Anyone?

I agree with Tomasso. Just my opinion, but that long, loose, boxy, 4-button jacket is going to look like it doesn't fit, even when it does. When I invest in bespoke, I choose a classic cut that will show-off the excellent fit the tailor has worked to achieve. That's just me; to each his own.

    Opinion requested - windowpane blazer

Good decision. These bold windowpanes are best avoided by those of us who have a bit extra at the waistline. We look like a horse (and blanket).

    Great idea; go with it.

    Brown Shoes with Gray Suit?

Nice buy on the AE's and they look great with that suit. Shorten the sleeves and wear a pocket square. Get a good quality, white French-cuff shirt and silver satin tie. Have a wonderful day!

    Brown Shoes with Gray Suit?

No simple answer to this; it depends on the shade of gray and the shade of brown, e.g., light gray flannels and brown suede shoes are a classic, time-honored combo; an equally trad classic is a dark gray suit and cordovan/oxblood wing tips or cap toes.
