    Mountain Khakis from REI

I just ordered a pair of Mountain Khakis from REI (from the REI outlet for half price) and from what I can tell from pictures they look like a pretty decent pair of work/hiking pants with a very wide leg (9.5” flat 19” total at bottom opening). They’re mid rise unlike my Bill’s Khakis M1s but...

DEATHS ; Notable Passings; The Thread to Pay Last Respects

Max Von Sydow was one of the greatest. He could play the most sober roles or take on the goofiest parts with equal passion. Examples of goofy would be Ming the Merciless in Flash Gordon (a very fun movie) and as the evil brewer in Strange Brew (another fun movie). R.I.P.

Why American Workers Now Dress So Casually

Sweatshirt, dungarees, and a porkpie hat sounds like a pretty cool look, tbh. But I totally get how it would be odd in that era. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    1950's-60's Car Coat Sources

Derby Jackets of San Francisco still makes a similar jacket w/ knits like you want. They're not made in S.F. anymore but other than that (and the price) they haven't changed much. Clint Eastwood wears one in some scenes in the first Dirty Harry movie. Cheers! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    What Are You Reading

Not very "Golden Era" but I'm reading "The Way of Zen" by the late great Alan Watts. Although I suppose you could say it's about a golden eraーit just happened more than 2000 years before Brooks Brothers :D Alan Watts was actually quite the sartorialist. If you look at early pictures of him (say...

1939 Book of photos of Japanese Ladies

Unrequested update to ancient (by Internet standards) thread: book now partially eaten by my 17 month old German Shepard Conan. Lessons learned: 1) keep valuables away from dog (too late for the 1930s sofa) , 2) Always have plenty of bones/rawhide & toys on hand (Vintage '30s suits still safe!)...

Ben Davis "Gorilla Cut" work pants

Hello all! It's been a while since I've started a post here so excuse me if this has turned up before (I didn't see it when I searched but I may have missed something). I was wondering if anyone has tried the "Gorilla Cut" pants made by Ben Davis? They are described as having extra wide legs...

You know you are getting old when:

You know you're getting old when you realize that the only reason you bothered to learn how to use a computer was so you could: 1. Buy obsolete technology. 2. Join forums and complain about the modern world with groups of people who use computers to buy obsolete technology and complain about the...

We walk the walk but do we talk the talk?

Haha, right, I remember that! I moved from California to Boston in the mid 80s and "wicked" was a favorite of all the "townies".

    I remember when.....

I can relate to that! I got my 1966 Ford Galaxy in 1990 for $600 but you'll have to add another 0 to that to find a nice one here now. Sadly she rusted away...I miss driving all of that American steel (I miss the $1 a gallon when filling her up too!)

    I remember when.....

I had a similar routine when I was about 9 years old: a nice elderly lady who lived a few doors down from our house would give me a couple of bucks if I would bring here a pack of smokes from the corner store. The change was enough to buy a comic book and a candy bar. Today the store clerk would...

    David Lynch (Spoilers)

Every few years this thread is brought back from the grave, so...here it is again. I agree with the general view here that David Lynch is one of the greatest directors ever. For my money he's THE greatest living director in the U.S. He also comes across as a very good person (he was an Eagle...

    What Are You Reading

Sort of a reactionary history textbookーa fun read by the greatest ever "old fogey". Neat book.

    What Are You Reading

I'm currently (speed) reading my way through Julius Evola's "Revolt Against the Modern World" -an appropriate title for this site I'd say- which will be followed by David Lynch's "Catching the Big Fish" which is about creativity and Trancendental Meditation. Actually, this is a CD of Lynch...

What's the meaning behind your Avatar ?

Ah, well, it's not actually me although I have a habit of wearing my shirts buttoned all the way up minus necktie. Shirts just don't look right unbuttoned to me but I find ties a bit constraining (but I do wear them for certain occasions).

What's the meaning behind your Avatar ?

Scratch thatーI just changed my avatar and am no longer a flying pig. Although I may or may not be a swine. Depends on who you ask.
