1920s suits

[Two Types]

Child's suit - most likely early 1920s (I love the shoes):

Here are a selection of photographs from April 1927 (Holloway, north London):

This man (from the same wedding group) has a much more stylish suit (in my opinion):

And I believe this is from 1928. The man on the right is interesting, wearing very dark trousers and waistcoat with a lighter jacket (with rather large pockets):

P.S. I know there are lots of views of the same suit in this post, but i thought the 1920s fans out there might want to look for certain details.

Knickerbocker Tailoring Company (they don't name them like that any more) 1921:

note the 'Box Back' coat (square with no centre seam) as mentioned in 'St James Infirmary Blues'.

interesting that Knickerbocker Tailoring Company offer a mix n match front and back style of your choice.
as far as i'm aware the regular mail order companies such as Sears, Montgomery Ward, Charles Williams didn't do that (at least they don't in the 20s catalogues i have).

I particularly like Style M, Pinchback. The scalloped yoke and buttoned belt is very cool. I assume that can be fastened around in front as well?

I always wondered the line in that song referred to. I imagined a "box-back" coat would have been something...well...flashier?

totally nuts suit which bares similarity in cut and features to the one at the start of this thread posted by Floey:

couldn't get a good view of the back, but it also has some serious pleatage:

this one seems conservative in comparison (but it isn't)... tight shouldered, slim armed, tiny button stance, narrow wrap DB:

note the watch worn over shirt cuff; not a recent Italian bespoke wearer's invention.

my suit

Hi,

I would like to add my suit that I found at some point to the thread. It was made in 1919 (hope this is o.k.) and is made of a very course wool. But, it is extremely light and airy, maybe a black summer weight suit? It has a flat back and no belt buckle on the back of the pants. But it does have a flat piece of fabric on the inside of the front fly that buttons from one side to the other. The last pic. is looking through the seat of the pants at my window with just diffused ambient light coming through. Itchy but very breezy. I would like to wear it but people back the were to ****** skinny. That is my story and I am sticking to it!

great suit. if you hadn't explained about the fabric i would have assumed it was fairly heavy going from the first two photos.

Look at the shoes in those two last snaps! One there at the bottom looks a bit like modern G&G Decos but the ones I like are in the middle violinist with the spade soles.

Those spectator spat boots look just like the ones from gentleman's emporium

I think the sideburns are for his historical dramas. Pirate or bullfighter or something. Not a 1920s fashion.
