So I was looking at www.thefedorastore.com and it says that for 2011, Dobbs has a new open crown silk finish fedora. I'm kind of excited because I feel better when I get new hats wet, dirty, etc. I like to keep my vintage hats looking nice and vintage. When I saw the opportunity to actually buy a new "off the shelf" fedora with an open crown it kind of got me excited. The description says that the hat has a 2 inch brim. From the picture, it also has a box bow, thinly bound brim, and comes in Black, Caribou, and Tawny.

Has anyone bought this hat or seen one in person yet? Im really curious how tall the crown is. If the crown is over 5 1/4 inches tall, this hat would make a perfect 20's/30's fedora clone.

Glad Dobbs is taking this step. Shows that fedoras are coming back to a degree, indeed, if they are exploring new products. Now if only they'd make that brim over 2-1/4 inches...

Hard to tell about the crown height. Are you thinking of getting one? You might want to check if HATCO outlet has any.

I'm most definitely thinking about getting one. Even though I would like the brim to be a 2 1/8 or a 2 1/4, a two inch brim will do just fine with a 20's/30's styling. I will contact the HATCO outlet and see if they have any. If they do, I will try to find out how tall the crown is. The crown shape is perfect. It looks very strait, with a nice round top. If I were to guess, I would say that ribbon looks about 1 1/2 - 2 inches. If thats the case, when I try to scale the hat, the crown would appear to be about 5 1/2 inches tall, but that's a pure guess based on the ribbon.

I have to admit, for a modern Dobbs it has a very pleasing crown shape, from what I can see in this photo. I wouldn't mind seeing one in person. I agree, a 2 1/8" or 2 1/4" brim would look great.

Joshbru, you might try emailing the owner of the fedora store and asking about the crown height just to be sure. I think his name is Duane.

I, too like the look, just wish it were a little bit wider brim.

Has anybody on the lounge bought one of these? I saw one in person when I went to the Hatco outlet in 2011, but they didn't have my size at the time. This was a very short run and I have never seen one come up on ebay or on the lounge as of yet. Hatco had about 4-5 of these in stock at the time and I figured someone on the lounge bought one. In person, it was actually one of the nicest modern day production Hatco hats that I had held. The open crown had a great profile and the silk finish was nicely done. I have tried to contact the Hatco outlet and Hatco itself numerous times with absolutely no luck.

I'm holding a Royston in this pic from Fedorafest 2011
