8 Panel Cap

Hi my names Ike, and I'm new here. I'm working on an 8 panel cap, and I'm struggling with the patterning the brim, how deep should it be?

Actually, brim (visor) widths and lengths varied, even during the 1920s and '30s. Cap wearers had more than a few options in brim dimensions.

Would 5 inches work, or should it be more like 7 or 8, because the length of my panels are 9
