Hey guys, As I'm not a big melton wool fan, I'm searching for my first (Caban) Peacoat made of heavy cotton twill (navy or black). I really like the Mister Freedom one but t size 38 /medium isn't available anymore. Do you know another "high end" maker (not the luxury brands of course) preferably located in Europe or a shop in Europe who offers similar coats? Thanks, Robbie https://misterfreedom.com/collections/jackets/products/caban-peacoat?variant=19213081510001
I had one of these! Loved it. I think Schott made a denim peacoat as well. IH does one in 21oz denim but I don’t like the pattern very much. There’s a supposed 32oz denim version on eBay from Bob dong:
Buzz Rickson's. Basically the same manufacturer since MF clothing are made by Sugar Cane. https://clutch-cafe.com/collections...s/buzz-ricksons-br14425-pea-coat-jungle-cloth A earlier BR sold by fellow lounger a while ago probably discontinued but WW2 style as opposed to the WW1 style by MF and the current BR model. https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/sugar-cane-x-buzz-rickson-indigo-peacoat-size-42.89981/
@ton312 Thanks for your advice. The 32oz demin one from Bob Dong looks nice but I'm not sure if it's worth the risk to import a jacket from an unknown maker from China.
@Blackadder Thanks for your advice. I wasn't aware that Sugar Cane is the manufacturer for BR and MF. Actually the cotton used for the MF one does look more solid and thicker than the BR one. I actually found a size 42 on Ebay from a seller based in UK but I'm not sure if size 42 is too large (perhaps with layering as my chest is 41" and this one has almost 43"). Anyway, this MF specific version is still my favorite one and if the price would be lower I would take the risk. https://www.ebay.de/itm/MISTER-FREE...860145?hash=item2ae09aaef1:g:GTEAAOSwP8leNq3G
RRL. Overpriced but you might catch one on sale. https://www.ralphlauren.eu/nl/en/limited-edition-indigo-peacoat-538562.html?dwvar538562_colorname=Indigo&cgid=men-clothing-jackets-coats&webcat=Men/Clothing/Jackets Coats#navstate=jackets&webcat=men|clothing|Jackets &ab=EU_MLP_RRL_Slot_1_S1_L3_SHOP&start=1&cgid=men-clothing-jackets-coats
@Marc mndt Thanks - I actually like this one but as you said it's overpriced and I'm not sure if I want to wait till Spring when it's probably on sale. Anyway, thanks again!
@MoFo Many thanks - this is what I was looking for. In the meantime I've also found the Peacoat from German brand Hannes Roether (https://www.manufactum.de/herrenjacke-doppelreiher-a202866/) and as far as I know their cotton is also very thick and substantial but from price point of view Pike Brothers is unbeatable.

Happy to help! The Pike Bros Version is from “Elephant Skin” – a very dense, thick cotton that was for work wear invented. I have a Vest from that material.

I was just talking to Pike Brothers and they told me that the material is similar to so called Deutschleder (offered by Hannes Roether) but more pliable due to pre-washing. Thanks again!
I'm not a fan of Melton wool either, but the nicest pea coats are made of Kersey wool (pre-1980). But, if you aren't a fan of wool pea coats in general, then a real pea coat isn't for you.
If I remember your numbers correctly, then I guess size 42" in MF would be too big on you... I am wearing 42" in MF and I am 5'11" and 180 lbs. but there is another one on ebay size L. This is the very early version from MF Naval Collection
What's not to like about melton wool? I bought a nice belted peacoat a few weeks ago : https://www.kentandcurwen.com/colle...ducts/midnight-blue-wool-peacoat-k38i6er10439
They make really nice coats and for a couple of months (at least) still no custom fees for EU customers https://www.privatewhitevc.com/
Not a peacoat but it looks nice. Whitefeather calls it their Jeep coat. https://www.whitefeathermfg.com/produkt/1930s-jeep-coat-style/
Difficult decision but I finally decided to order the Hannes Roether double breasted coat made by thick "Deutschleder" heavy cotton as it does look more modern compared to my leather jackets and will therefore be a good contrast. If I'm not happy, I'll go for the Pike Brothers Peacoat. Thanks again to all for your input!
I have a couple of Hannes Roether cardigans and I really like them. A lot of pieces from this brand appeal to me. Jacket looks fine.
