Aero Hooch Hauler advice

In terms of the duties :
There is a rule that if you're importing something that is MADE IN UK and have proof for it then you can skip customs fees. In the context of Estonia that would have saved me 8% if I had known that.

If you're really set on an Aero - go for it, it's far from a bad choice, just not as good as it used to be before the price increases. And it's very hard to find similar Aviator style jackets for anything less than an Aero and outside of JP and related pricing.
If money was not a question I would order a black CXL steerhide J-106 today without hesitation.

I would have absolutely no worries about water if I were you, no matter what leather you select. Wear it in pouring rain and dry it properly.

With the newly added upcharge for FQHH I'd take the CXL steerhide without any doubts. If Badalassi had no upcharge - would love to try that even more than the CXL steerhide. Again, if the upcharge is no issue for you - totally go for the badalassi.
I've never handled it, but have heard that it is on the stiff side (which I LOVE) and CXL steerhide would be more pliable and break in sooner.

A corduroy strip on the hem won't do much against the thick belts and belt loops, but it should help a bit. Not sure if they would agree but I'd even consider a strip of leather instead.

In terms of measurements why do you even want to deal with measuring yourself if you're visiting Aero? Let them measure you. Unless you have strong preferences of certain jacket measurements (like I do) - then it would be good to really nail down what kind of measurements you want yourself and at least give that info to Aero.
And definitely ask them which jackets share the most similar pattern to the hooch hauler and whether they have 34-36 sizes in those. Most likely they won't because the smaller sizes are more rare.
For example I see that they have a goatskin sheene in 36 right now - that should be a very close pattern to the hooch hauler. The FQHH cafe racer that they have in stock as well.

Asking for custom measurements is tricky and dangerous if you don't know what you're doing - ideally stick to stock sizing as then you can also return the jacket if it does not fit. I took the risk with some custom adjustments because I knew pretty well what I want. And still screwed up with body length and sleeve length.. Learning experience!

I would definitely not rule out an inside pocket - the chest is rather small and not very practical.

The mobility is not horrible by any means, just can't hold a candle to my Vanson model E (which has a FULL ACTION BACK, so it's apples to oranges), today I wore it for 7 hours outside with kids, feels great, especially when the leather warms up.
I think there's two influences of the leather in terms of mobility - softness/pliability and "give" or stretch. FQHH gets very nice and pliable when worn in and warmed up, but it won't "give" at all. Maybe badalassi has a bit more give, I don't know.
Kelpie is definitely much softer and a bit thinner than both CXL and Badalassi - I've seen some gorgeous examples of it though! But I wanted the "classic Aero leathers experience" and could not pass up getting a CXL jacket :) Kelpie was 2nd on my list.

I think CXL steerhide would work better for the hooch hauler than FQHH but still not ideal. Don't know about badalassi. Kelpie would work great. Personally I would not even consider Vicenza, especially if you're concerned about the leather standing up to rain.
ok, I need to find out about this duties thing. If there was a way in Italy too it would be awesome.
Would this also work if I were to directly purchase an already available jacket? I don't know, maybe declaring it at the airport...I have to inform myself...

For the inside pocket: ok i'll think about it...maybe with a button or some tipe of closure i would be more relaxed in using it :D

I really hope that they will have some jackets similar to HH in my size (more or less...). I already told them my approximate measurements...we'll see :)

Thanks again, you were very precious

Hi all, I had a doubt about the lining…maybe i’m overthinking about it, but reading some threads, someone have said that the light tartan is softer to the touch vs the heavy strome tartan. I thought only the thickness changed.

I want a durable lining but I don't want to have something that itches. Shure i’ll try some jacket with Different lining, but sometimes the itching is not instantaneous.

For example, with a simple t-shirt, the heavy lochcarron tartan lining may have some itching problems? I usually have no problem with merino or baby-alpaca wool, but sometimes with more rude wools i have some problems.

I hope that 3 hours at aero factory is enough for me to make decisions :)

I’m one of those guys that are super sensitive to fabrics. I can’t even wear a t shirt with a multi blend because it will irritate the **** out of me. Oftentimes a tag in the back will bother me too! lol.. however I own a couple aero jackets with the lochcarron tartan lining and they aren’t itchy at all. I highly recommend that fabric.

Hi gentlemen! Just an update: i’ve ordered my custom Hooch hauler!!

At the end i choose the russet Badalassi. The cxfqhh is really nice but pretty stiff to me when new, the cxsh almost the same but a bit softer…But the Badalassi is (almost to me) a lot more luxurious and seems more premium, and the smell…

It squeeks, but not too much and to me is not an issue at all. But now i understand why it can be a problem for somebody :)

Now i only have to wait…the most difficult part…ahah

Looking forward to seeing the result!
Badalassi would be a no brainer rival for CXL for me if it didn't have such an expensive upcharge.
But now even the CXL FQHH has an upcharge so the difference is not as large.
If I'd go for another custom Aero I'd go for a black badalassi Moonshiner like the stunning one that @Canuck Panda has.

I’ve seen a couple of black Badalassi and is a super nice black! Deep and a little shiny. I already have a black jacket so i only consider some brownish color, and the russet catch my heart :) But that black Badalassi is gorgeous! Go for it! :)

I’ve tried a j-106 (i love that design also!) in black cxfqhh but the fit is very different from the HH, a lot bigger. I think that for my body i can’t have the fit i want in that pattern…

The vincent is pretty similar to HH in term of fitting, but i like it less than j-106.

My size (at least for the slim fit pattern) is the 36 pretty stock…and the j-106 in size 36 is a lot too big for me.

For shure i’ll post the result ;)

We are quite similar in a way then.
I also contemplated the J-106, as I love the design, but was told that the pattern is a lot roomier and that 36 would be too big for me. And they hadn't done a 34 in many years and couldn't even give me the approximate measurements.
Replicating a J-106 using the Vincent pattern shot the price up by a LOT so I just skipped the whole idea.
The Moonshiner pattern would probably also not work too well for me.
Either way I'm pretty done with Aero until randomly get rich haha.
Now I'm waiting for my Rugged West J-24 style D-pocket in shinny AF black teacore.

My jacket finally arrived today! Sooner than expected!
I'll take some decent photos soon (it's over 30 degrees here, not exactly ideal for a leather jacket).

The leather smells fantastic, but I already knew that. The stitching seems perfect to my eyes. It's very comfortable to wear (excellent mobility) and fits just as I remembered.

So far, I've only tried it on with a t-shirt, but I'd say it's good! I'm only a little concerned about one thing: it seems a little large in the high/back sleeves. Maybe I'm used to my current jacket which is too tight, or maybe I don't remember how the jacket I tried on in the showroom looked. it's ok, but with certain movement it seems a bit too big in that area.

All the measurements seem perfect to me and allow for easy layering, just what I wanted...except for that one section, which seems a little baggy. It definitely still has the shape of the box and it clearly needs to take the shape of my body.

i'have not asked for custom measures in that area, so in general i think that is a pretty standard hooch hauler in size 36". That said i think in that area it is the same as the one I tried in the showroom and this is normal for the pattern.

I should also mention that I'm very thin and need to get back into training to build some muscle :D

Just to show the jacket itself (the combo leather/lining)...sorry for the confusing background but I didn't want to put it directly on the floor ahah

EDIT: I couldn't resist trying it on with a medium-weight merino sweater. I can't get a decent photo from behind; you'll have to wait for some better fit photo, especially the part of the sleeves which made me have some doubts. from this angle i love it.

I have the same jacket in black horsehide size 38. I know what you mean about that area in the back of your arms, I have a jacket that I kinda feel the same way about. Not my hooch hauler thankfully. From that angle, the jacket looks like it fits you perfectly with the sweater you are wearing. Also, most of my jackets that I bought new, I felt the same way about the fit but after wearing the **** out of them, that often changed lol

Thanks for the feedback. yes is obviously "rigid" right now, being new, so with time the leather will soften up and drape better also in that part i think. Your words reassure me.

PS: a couple of months without training is enough for me to immediately lose that little bit of muscle mass in my arms/shoulders :D i do some cardio stuff (indoor cycling and MTB in the alps every week), but the gym is a separate thing...

obviously i can't wear a jacket outside with 30 degrees celsius, but I managed to take some photos inside (this time with only a t-shirt underneath). the jacket is completely new so still rigid. in some photos one sleeve seems longer than the other, but it's due to the fact that i use the right hand more and formed some creases...while the left sleeve is completely straight :D
when I can finally wear it they will become the same.

The more i try it, the more seems good to me also in the upper/back arm...still a bit big, but i think that with some use the leather drapes better also in that area.

Sorry for the tag! I forgot to take it off.

i've seen few pictures with the hooch hauler full zipped up, so i've made 2 more photos:

In any case the mobility is perfect (a lot better than my old jacket, that is a bit too tight). I also love the collar, i think that in the coldest days it helps a lot blocking the wind...i also think that this style is pretty good full zipped up.

Thank you all again for the precious help!
