I hate going into downtown Seattle. Let the tourists have it. I may have to take a short hunting trip down there very soon though.

Seattle Sign Cheers U.S. Enemies

Let me balance that out with this awesome new column by Ann Coulter!

"You Are Now Free to Move About the Cabin ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú Not So Fast, Mohammed!"

I don't understand why people like this even live in this country. They obviously hate America and all it stands for.

Disagreeing with the foreign and domestic policies of the administration is one thing. You have every right to do that and the system of checks and balances is indeed good for us all but ...

Cheering on the enemy to kill Americans is wrong. It is vile and hateful and in any other country in the world ... treasonous.

I doubt they would have the guts to do this to the faces of the family and friends of our men and women in the service. (I am among these and I pray every day that my little sister doesn't get sent to that hellhole)

But then again ...

I guess it is a good thing they live in this country.

P.S. If you ever feel a need to go and practice pitching at windows ... I'll supply the brick. Not that I condone violence or even petty vandalism of any kind.

It's just a political statement.

I agree with Chamarro. Living in this country must be painful for them if they have so much hate that they go out of their way to post such venim of victory and celebration of deaths to US soldiers. I read from the above story that they are "Trotskyites". The main difference between Trotsky and Stalin was that Trotsky wanted more of a worldwide revolution amongst the workers of the world so that total communism would be complete. Stalin was happy with regional total control. So these sick athiestic bastards are truly screwed up. They are not happy until the whole world revolts against capitalism. I still wish, that they would move to North Korea or Cuba where if they were to stray one inch from the communist party line that there white-ass civil liberties would be put in a political prison or worse, hung unceremoniously at dawn.

This I speak from a kid who didn't see his uncles, aunts, cousins because the were sent off to some Gulag or shot during the rise of communism throughout Russia in the 1920's. Yes, the revolution occured in 1917, but it took awhile for it to spread to the rest of the country. The depression there was nothing like here. People were eating grass soup and eating mud to stop their stomachs from hurting. It was a political system that all decisions about you and your family were put to a centralized commitee. You had no control of whether you became a farmer or a nuclear scientist. The state decided EVERYTHING! I have a strong feeling that these poser Seattle "Trotskyites" would not like that at all. Boy would I love to have a Russian from the Stalin era have a conversation with these posers. What a bunch of morons. Thanks Kyle, you made my day. It sickens me to know that there is such disgusting, naive people like this in our country.

Sergei, you know your stuff. I can't imagine living under a system like that. It is so strange that these folks in Seattle don't realize that the very thing thay are demonstrating against allows them their diverse opinions. And what they are wanting, would not allow it. Stange indeed. No, insane is a better word. Fedora

What in the world is this state of mine coming too? Don't answer that, I think I already know.

This wonderful story along with that knucklehead Jim McDermitt has made my day. :( He lead the Pledge of Allegence in the House of Representatives (without placing his hand over his heart) and 'somehow' left out the phrase "under God". He says "by accident" but you can tell that it was on purpose. What a screwed up state I live in. I keep trying to vote that guy out and they keep voting him in.... Of course what do you expect from a guy who thinks Saddam is more trustworthy then Bush and considers that the capture of Saddam was a political move to improve Bush's approval rating.

I can't resist replying to this thread...

To add some perspective here -

The Socailist party is a very minor party here in Seattle, and is considered leftist even for Seattle, which leans to the left anyhow. Believe it or not, their "National Headquarters" is a stone's throw from the University of Washington campus, which gives you a hint that it's pretty much a college-student oriented party, with all of the idealism and passion and lack of judgement that goes with being in college.

Nobody takes them seriously. If I am recalling correctly, their candidate's statement in the last few voters pamphlets have been rambling statements against mandatory vaccinations for kids entering kindergarden.

Do I find their statements about freedom fighters offensive? Yes. For that matter, I also find the statements of the far right offensive as well. However, I feel that, in general, hearing from both edges of the spectrum is a good thing - healthy discussion and the exchange of ideas is a hallmark of a strong democratic process. It's up to us as individuals to consider, and likely discard the messages that come from both extremes of the political spectrum.

However, the fringes on both ends of the spectrum serve a service in that they serve as lightning rods to bring issues to public attention. My take on the Socialists is that they are making more of a statement that we shouldn't be in Iraq against the will of the people rather than advocating the death of US servicemen.

With respect to the comments above about Jim McDermott, here's some additional background for folks as well:

Yes, he's very far to the left. However, his congressional district includes a lot of the staunch Democratic and leftist neighborhoods, like the University here. In at least the last election, the Republicans didn't even bother to have a candidate run against him. He ran unopposed. And, since he has a very safe position, this allows him to take political risks that most folks would never dare to. My take on the "under god" issue is that he was more makling a statement in support of the current Supreme Court case that is currently being argued as to whether the phrase "under god" is acceptable.

I don't always agree with some of the stuff that McDermott does either - but have to admire him for having the gumption to take on difficult issues and represent the admittedly leftist views of his constituents

There isn't a country in the world that practices her party's model for government, she said, but Cuba comes the closest.

What an A-hole.

However, Tuesday, she said, a "not very eloquent person" telephoned and "called us all a bunch of fags, which is not very conducive to debate."

Don't lie... if this nutcase had her way... there wouldn't be any room for debate. Communists SLAUGHTERED people who wanted debate.

I invite them to come and live in this Ecuadorian city where the Mayor is a (translated) "Christian Socialist."

We can?Ǭ¥t drink the water, eat the local food, walk on the streets at night, drive safely, nor enjoy life.

Last year something like 400,000 Ecuadorians left the country legally...only 1/4 returned in their allotted time.

Sure. The first one I assume is obvious.

The article by Coulter is one of the most offensive things I've read in a while. With her whole round 'em all up attitude, she probably got thrown out of the KKK as a child for being too much of a bigot. Nineteen psychotics cause a tragedy so let's just attack everyone who's brown. What exactly is it that needs to be explained? It's sickening.

I did do a little reading on her though. Here's a link to a pretty good article.
http://www.spinsanity.org/columns/20010716.html
And something else.
http://www.washingtonmonthly.com/features/2001/0111.coulterwisdom.html

And a couple of quotes

"I think we had enough laws about the turn-of-the-century. We don't need any more." Asked how far back would she go to repeal laws, she replied, "Well, before the New Deal...[The Emancipation Proclamation] would be a good start."---Politically Incorrect 5/7/97

To a disabled Vietnam vet: "People like you caused us to lose that war."---MSNBC

It's always amazed me how two people can read the same words and come away with such diametrically opposed views as to what was said. Kittlemier, where did it say "round em all up"? What I read it to say is " look more closely rather than away". Since this obviously brings out emotions that you experience first hand ( I am guessing by your tone) lets try turning things just a bit. What if...the murders were done by grey haired, blue eyed, middle aged men who wear hats all the time? When you got on the next plane, would you be looking suspiciously at the twenty something African american female in line? or perhaps that middle aged guy with a briefcase. If you are honest with yourself we both know where your attention would be. So, since i fit the criteiria in my make believe scenario I would have to be prepared for the extra scrutiny and find the best way I could to deal with the stares and the uncertainty of the situation. Since I cannot change my blue eyes, my sex, my hair , and WILL not change my hat wearing habit, I would have to do more to make people less afraid within my tiny circle. I would have to scream from the roof tops that I am against the terrorism to anyone that would listen. Is it fair? no, not at all. But is IS reality. The relative silence of the Muslim community has not eased the fear that it is a larger problem than our leaders would have us believe.
I am not defending Ann Coulter here. Her words are her words period. What I AM trying to establish is that words are tempered and understood through our own mental filters and THAT is what leads us down incorrect paths. How you interjected "round em all up" and "KKK" into those words tells me much about your processes. From this angle it appears to be a pretty limited prism in which to see reality. I also look to where you "research" her and hmmm, not exactly an unbiased source, would you say?
Please understand Omar, I have no ill will against anyone that holds none toward me. But it is downright silly to NOT try to protect ourselves in the most logical manner. If a wolf kills my pet, I don't start shooting sheep.

"Now Frisking All Arabs ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú Twice!"

"More Civil-Rights Lawsuits Brought by Arabs Than Any Other Airline!"

"The Friendly Skies ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú Unless You're an Arab"

"You Are Now Free to Move About the Cabin ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú Not So Fast, Mohammed!"

"Congress could pass a law tomorrow requiring that all aliens from Arabic countries leave....We should require passports to fly domestically. Passports can be forged, but they can also be checked with the home country in case of any suspicious-looking swarthy males."

That's a little extreme for extra scrutiny and has nothing to do with protecting one's self. To me, it sounds intentionally offensive. Maybe I'm looking through a limited prism to come to that conclusion but Ms. Coulter doesn't seem too open minded herself. How should anyone take comments like these. What did you think she meant?

I'm pretty lucky as far as my name goes. Mom's a big Dr. Zhivago fan so that's where it came from. I get generalized out of all this and I'm not even Arabic. All thanks to people like Ms. Coulter. As far as the "round 'em up" and KKK comments, I grew up and live in a small town in the South and along with the great things about the town, these are the same attitudes I've heard all my life. The only difference I can see is she has a law degree.

As far as the sites I linked, the only other things on the first two search pages were articles written by her or her own site. And honestly, I couldn't find anything about her charities or good deeds. Just more of the same trash.

Don't get me wrong, I completely disagree with Luma Nichol's(socialist) views also, can't stand Michael Moore, and I completely support the military. I lost a great friend in Afghanistan. I just can't understand where Coulter's coming from at all. The friend I lost died saving Afghani kids she would have spit on. K

Omar, you have alot of questions incorporated in your post so I will try to break them up individually and respond. There is no meaning other than try for order. I have again reread her article to make sure I understand the context in which these statements are made.

"That's a little extreme for extra scrutiny and has nothing to do with protecting one's self."

Yes, it IS extreme but I disagree that it has nothing to do with protecting one's self. Our ONLY protection from this sort of terrorism is to prevent, not stop it in the middle of an incident.

"To me, it sounds intentionally offensive."

Agreed, I believe it is mean't to be to get some attention to the point of how silly and dangerous the "politically correct" mindset can be. Also, let me inject that i am a Rush Limbaugh fan and one of the tecniques he uses is by exagerating the absurd to make his point. I believe that she is using the same technique, or at least attempting to. I also believe that it is a stab at humor.

"Maybe I'm looking through a limited prism to come to that conclusion but Ms. Coulter doesn't seem too open minded herself"

Agreed again, her mind is pretty well set as to the dangers and the solutions in her opinion. You are both entitled to them.

"How should anyone take comments like these. "

Maybe with a little less seriousness. Part of her effectiveness is her dry humor and directness, sometimes in an odd place, but still humor. I personally get SO tired of people beating around the bush ( no pun intended) to make a confusing and muddled point. She tends to get right to it.

The rest of your post is more statement so I can end by reflecting on how much you and I have in common. I also have lost a friend in Afganistan recently and still mourn him. I don't believe that Ann Coulter has as much hate in her heart as you see so I don't agree that she would spit on the kids our friends died saving. I too have experienced the south and it's attitudes. My first wife was full blooded Japanese but second generation American born. Her father and mother, ( both born here) were interred in camps during WWII and still have the scapbooks of pictures of those days. In 1970 we took our 2 year old son ( many times called our "half breed") to Florida to try to start my own business only to be run off the road in Alabama by two drunks whom disagreed with a "slant eye" being in their state..even on the interstate.
When stopping for hamburgers outside of Montgomery we were refused service because they didn't serve "Japs" in their restaurant. Being the young hot head that I was it lead to a fight and my incarceration until the plate glass I was thrown into was paid for. Let me repeat, THAT I WAS THROWN INTO.
In short Omar, we have alot of understanding between us. The differences might be in perception and age. As I have aged the anger is more controlable and the perception hopefully is less narrow. I am assuming you are a young man. Please correct me if i am wrong because that changes the equation.

She does remind me of Howard Stern in that more of her readers/listeners probably can't stand her. What about younger listeners who don't get the joke? They just see a pretty blond trying to get rid of the Arabs.

I believe that she is using the same technique, or at least attempting to. I also believe that it is a stab at humor.

To quote Mr. Round "Not very funny."

I'm not attacking anyone in a syndicated column.

Yeah, I don't have any doubts where she stands.

We really do have a lot in common. I've been on both sides of the coin. While I was a child, my mother was married to an Iranian man. He was a great guy but can you imagine having an Iranian step-father in the late seventies/early eighties. On the other hand, my wife is Puerto Rican. This isn't such a big deal in most places but we've been the target of occasional comments here and there so I definitely know where you're coming from. Luckily I haven't had it to the extent you have. My little half breeds will get it also as one is completely me(looks, straight hair) and one is completly her(curly and very spanish). Hopefully by the time they're out and about on their own, no one will wonder why the white kid and the (Spanish, mixed, whatever) kid are riding in the same car. By the way, I'm thirty years old. Art is right on the mark here. His posts hit every single point I was going to say. Incredible.

As for Ms. Coulter, I enjoy her provocative and jingoistic tone immensely. Her directness, wit, sardonic humor and love for traditional values are things I really relate to.

Dress it up however you want. I read it as racist.

If she's got a problem with Clinton. Great, the guys a pig. Welfare. So do I. Democrats. Hell, I don't like politicians at all.

I admit, her writing style is entertaining. But I can do without the broad, sweeping hate speech. If you enjoy it, great. Just don't be surprised if someone disagrees. K

Fine, she is racist. Whatever you say, pal. Classify me as one too because I'm all for racial profiling. I don't give a crud if someone disagrees or, God forbid, is offended. I do care if my family and I are blown up in mid-air.

Recognizing differences in ethnicity and skin color is not sin. I thank God that we are all different. It helps me protect myself and my family better. When I'm at the mall or some other public venue and I see some one of middle eastern descent you bet your ass I'm keeping a closer eye on their actions and behavior. Same goes for black gang bangers. Hell, white poseur gang bangers with baggy pants, huge parkas, backward caps and untied shoes for that matter. See, I'm not only a racist but I'm a clothist as well! Does that mean that everyone with these traits is dangerous? Of course not. But I will use any means necessary to stay aware and skin color and attire are only a couple tools at my disposal. I won't apologize for that.

Now that I have a child I'm also on the look out for potential child abductors which happen to be primarily white males. Whoops! There I go being racist again.

Again, I could care less how you live your life, but if you're going to come on a public board and post this stuff you have to be prepared for disagreement.

Racial profiling absolutely exists. Recognizing differences in skin color is natural but I really don't see how it's going to help you protect your family. You're more in danger from some drunk redneck hitting your car than any Arab terrorist. If it makes you feel better, more power to you, but "you're now free to move about the cabin-not so fast Mohammed", I don't see the great humor. Every other group you spoke of, you spoke about a manner of dress or actions. But any Arab is suspect? I have two boys myself, and I'll teach them to be aware of their surroundings, but I won't teach them to be afraid of everyone that doesn't look or dress just like them.

I'm familiar with profiling myself. Most minorities probably think I'm racist because I'm a typical white male. I wonder where that kind of generalization comes from? K
