Altering the shape of a Capricorn or other poly straw?

I have a Capricorn that I like very much except for the tapered crown. If this were a traditional felt or palm straw hat like Sunbody, I could easily adjust the crown into a more pleasing straight sided form. I have no experience working with synthetics. I can reshape the crown by hand but is there any way I can get the material to hold the modified shape? Do I just need to soften up the crown more? Does the material need to be heated? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Right the crown shape is pressed into these hats under Hydraulic pressure.
