As a newbie, I am in the nice/potentially embarrassing position of thinking of things that may be new and cool, or more likely are stupid and were discounted years ago for good reason.
Today's dumb idea is this...
Some amongst us have hats with untapers/reverse tapered crowns, with more space inside them. Winter is approaching. So, has anybody ever tried making themselves a hatliner out of something a little more cosy than silk or satin?
I know someone who does amigurumi. To you and me, that's "making cute little animals out of crochet". She can, and has, used some very fine wools to crochet fairly thin.
I have asked her, as an experiment, to crochet me a simple bowl-shaped hat, in as fine a yarn as she has. The hat will be finished around the bottom with two pieces of 1.5 inch grosgrain, encasing the bottom of the crochet on the inside and outside. The lining of a hat will be removed, and this woolen liner will go in its place. The ribbon at its base will be tucked down behind the headband, as was the original liner, so the part of the hat in contact with the head will be no thicker than it was.
For those of you in the Arctic Circle, does this idea interest you? Can you see any problems with it?
