Saw this pop up in my inbox today: Schott dropped a limited release of 56 Vandals jackets made in Shinki horsehide.

Personally, I like that they went with a D-Pocket model for a USA release model made with Shinki, but at $1900, it's pretty close now to just getting the RMC Buco J-24 (which, to me, besides the zipper, is a much nicer jacket in terms of pattern, 'history,' resale value if you don't like it, etc.).

I LOVE my Schott jackets, but many brands are now skyrocketing towards way too premium prices that I can no longer afford, especially heritage brands like Schott and Lewis. I guess they were seeing what the Japanese markets were bringing in and have had license to inch prices up since COVID, tariffs, and whatever the hell other reasoning can be applied to such astronomical inflation.

That said, it IS still cheaper than most new Shinki jackets -- and sits around the price of a new Rainbow Country jacket, which also offer some beautiful Shinki hides. Thoughts?

16.5 shoulders on a 20.75 pits and 24 back length? No thanks!
Seems like the price includes both the Schott fanboy fee and the "Shinkey is superior to everything!" fan boy fee.
And a generic nickel Schott YKK zipper for a 1900$ jacket? I'd much rather go for some brass Waldes at that price.

Overall I think the Aero KOTR is a MUCH better alternative to this. Only the typical #5 is a huge bummer as always.

It’s now been just over a year that I bought my Shinki Perfecto. USD 1.300 at that time if I remember correctly.

You can still get a Perfecto at a very decent price (618HH, 613SH), but the prices of the limited runs are just borderline insane by now.
This one is just a different leather on an existing jacket, so the novelty is limited and the extra effort negligible.

What exactly is strange about those measurements? It's a pretty standard 36 for this kind of pattern.

Schott's in-house zippers are Ideal/Conmar. I'd take them over most zippers on the market. They're consistently a pleasure to operate.

Yeah I think the limited runs aren't really for us; they're for the subset of the denim crowd that behaves like sneaker culture and chases limited items.

The jackets like the 618/118/613SH etc offer more sizing options and fine tuning of the pattern.

Shoulders too narrow for this pit to pit. And body too long for a 2" drop MC jacket. Only my opinion.

Schott asking extra because you're buying a Schott + movie jacket?

Fair enough, I stand corrected.

If you use the universal version, it works perfectly. I have no problems with it on my jackets. The Talon version, on the other hand, is difficult to close. Fortunately, I only have one jacket with this type.

I agree, 16.5 shoulders are unusually narrow for the rest of this jackets measurements.

My #5 universal is working fine as well, but it's still BS form Aero side not to allow customers to choose a larger zipper. I'd go for a #10 over a #5 without any doubt. Especially for CXL.

Again, I don’t really understand the argument. The shoulders are fine for a size 36 person, and on such a person there would be just over 7” of chest ease, which is perfectly reasonable.

It’s BS that Arrow uses #5s and it’s BS that Schott uses #10s. No maker can win on TFL!

Well, lucky for us we have a size 36 shoulder aficionado in @greenc who needs his shoulders fitting snug in the jacket -

“Thank you everyone, I appreciate the thoughts.

I'm generally a size 36 (17-inch shoulders, 39-inch chest) so my question began forming when I was imagining the proportions of a jacket that had shoulder and chest measurements that were the same (47 cm for both as I mentioned above).”

That’s not to say - even the size medium at 17.5 in shoulders is also on the small side. I think there’s really no debating that.
