Two movies initiated the mid 1970s "gangster fashion" revival: THE STING and, to a lesser extent, THE GREAT GATSBY. Both featured Robert Redford. Interestingly, Redford (along with Harrison Ford, of course) sparked a brief revival of fedora-wearing in the early 1980s, thanks to THE NATURAL.
Redford and Newman? Hmmmm.... yep, I'm thinking I'll be borrowing that one from you
Matt didn't like the Geisha one (no cars) hopefully he'll get more interested in this one!
I think I'll be picking this up. I loved The Sting, but to have an interview with two of the greatest actors ever, I can't pass that up. I'd love to see them do one more movie together.
I first saw The Sting at the theatre (when theatres still had mammoth screens leftover from days of Cinerama) when it opened in 1973. I remember it being Mother's Day, so it had probably just opened that week. Even though I was only nine, I was immediately captivated by it. It's just an incredibly fun picture, worthy of every Oscar it received.
I have watched disc 2 with all the extras. This not one clip that is not in the movie. It is just interviews with Redford, Newman and a few others. I am disappointed. I really wanted to see more of the production value.
Having said that....the interviews are fantastic....especially Newman. I haven't watched it in widescreen.....I will report back when I do.
The internet has gone down twice now while trying to reply
Yes, MK, it is worth it.
I brought it home from the video store and the extras are great.
Not only interviews with Newman and Redford but also great interviews with Ray Walston, Eileen Breenan and Charles Durning.
David S. Ward also talks about writng The Sting.
As with The Way We Were, Marvin Hamlisch talks about the music.
There is als a tribute, of sorts, to the director, George Roy Hill.
I finally get my post through and I found you already answered your own question.
Sorry, MK, I really did try.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Your thread gave me a reason to re-watch The Sting anyway.
