There. That there is now my dressing influence. If I can look HALF as good as that man, I'll have accomplished much.

Awesome style, pose, the works. He looks damned fine.

*** TALESE is well-known to Times readers as an "off-beat" reporter, a man who covers stories that depend on human interest rather than on strict news value for their impact. Over the years, he has also become an off-beat writer for national magazines.

I've long been an admirer of Talese's work. And I like the way he presents himself. And it's cool that he wears fedoras. But man, there ain't a hat in that bunch that I couldn't live as well without. And there isn't an outfit in that bunch that wouldn't be better complemented by hats other than the ones he's shown wearing. I mean, those hats are okay, but they're just okay.

I see what you mean, but I think that what is important, what gives him his "coolness", is that he is wearing obviously bespoke clothing that has a lived-in look. We tend to forget that back in the olden days a man's hat was supposed to be a bit beat-up and personalized; a too-perfect hat or clothes were seen as a bit "nerdy".

*** Talese is as dapper as they come. He might be the only man I've seen wear a club collar without looking affected.
