Jovan said:Well, a man's (or woman's for that matter) waist size can fluctuate around an inch or so throughout the day depending on when they eat, how much they eat, etc. Additionally, there are periods where you may lose weight or gain a little. Side adjusters and especially braces can be quite useful because of that.

I don't know if there's a rule about it, but generally the lines seem a lot neater when the trousers just have side adjusters and/or braces. Perhaps just me, but I can notice belt loop bulges under the waistcoat. Also, in my experience it encourages a lot of men to wear belts when wearing the waistcoat, which never looks good. :eusa_doh:Baron Kurtz said:I've only ever seen a very few American 30s 3-piece suits that do not have belt loops. The waistcoat covers the loops generally, but i guess with dropped loops like this one, it might not.
Is this (belt lops on 3-pc) not supposed to be done?

A lot of suits look fine, even better, without belt loops. I guess I'm pretty Savile Row in my views. However, on hot days one could discard the vest and even jacket, and wear a belt. A nice option to have during the era when most men would wear the same few suits day in and day out.
