So, Quint just posted this on Aintitcool.com

It's a large photo, but it needs to be to appreciate the whole filming experience.

Oh my.

I just read on Aintitcool, that Kevin McCarthy, the actor seen in the photo of above, died today, the same day the photo was posted. That is sad news. He had a great career.

I almost choked on my coffee when I saw the stage assistant using a hand-held blower not much different from what Warren Beatty used almost 50 years later for the blow-dry look in Shampoo.

(It's probably blowing cold air, though, to keep her cool in that metal costume.)

Too cool . . . who knew?

Fantastic thread. I didn't realize there were so many candid pics available of these actors. And the way they dressed was just awesome.

Special thanks to Hadley for the Fellini pics. Loved them.

Oh yes!!! those hair dryers were very popular in the 1920s:)

"Sol hairdryer, Germany, c 1925.
GERMANY - This early electric fan-driven hairdryer is simple in design and has two heat settings. It was generally used by middle class households in the 1920s. The first purpose-made hairdryers were boxes that stood on the table; hand-held dryers were introduced by the US Racine Universal Motor Company in 1920."

Dr. Strangelove

Kubrick on a ladder presiding over a shot of Tracy Reed who happens to have been the only woman who appeared in the nuclear farce. She plays Miss Scott, the secretary for Gen. "Buck" Turgidson (George C. Scott) but she also pops up in the movie as the woman in the centerfold of the Playboy magazine being read by Maj. T.J. "King" Kong (Slim Pickens)

Jean-Luc Godard, shooting a scene for “Breathless” at Orly Airport, in 1959, calls out instructions to his actors while the camera rolls.

“Stolen Kisses” stars Jean-Pierre Léaud, who had also played the lead in Truffaut’s first feature, “The 400 Blows.” At left, Truffaut. At right, Henri Langlois, the founder of the Cinémathèque Française.

On location, Truffaut relied on a battery of movie lights alongside his weighty studio camera.

Godard filmed the last scene of “Breathless” without crowd control and with no equipment but a hand-held camera.
