Hi folks. I found this Belstaff jacket in a thrift store today and it looks like it was hardly worn at all. No wear issues whatsoever. Im assuming it is a Panther by the tag. The tag also says 1966 as well as a serial number on it. Does this mean the jacket is from 1966? . Thx for any replies.

The original came out in 66, where is it made, if its Italy, thats gonna be the premium leather, earlier English made will be desireable, but newer ones are nowhere near as good quality as the older ones.

The 1966 is kind of just the model number, it would be a 2000's jacket from the looks of it. That said the stitching and proportions look very off on the pockets on this to me personally, unless it is a childs or a women's jacket. There were companies making pretty good looking and feelings fakes of these jackets and they kind of flooded the marked with them.

The stamped numbers do differ but most of the fake have the same number on them, I can't recall just now what the number is to check that. I'll see if I can find it on Google.

I had one I bought in I guess the mid 2000's which I did sell a year or so ago, I think it sold for about £400 or there abouts.

It is quite small. Size 42. Thx I'm no expert but all the details look authentic.

Yes, it looks like it would be the winter weight version and mine was the summer weight leather so I can't really compare. It might just look different because of that and the sizing for sure.

Its a shame the film jackets forum is gone because there was a lot of info on there there. I've had a couple of originals and handled a number of fakes to and while some of them were clearly bad some of them were so accurate it was just the feel of the materials that gave them away, it was really big thing for a while in the era these came out. If it feels well made then it looks like a winner.

Does the leather feel just a little dry on the surface? Thats something these jackets seem to get after a few years from what I've seen.

Belstaff Panther Jacket in Cognac

It had a retail of 1$1700 USD. You did well with your purchase. I consider those Belstaff models "fashion" type. I believe they are nice to wear around because they look convenient for my lifestyle. They are not nearly as heavy-duty as the TT from Vanson or Lost Worlds, but they do well for rocking around town. I purchased one similar that was done in Italy and was modeled after an original from the Leatherhead movie. My Belstaff is more of their take on a classic from the 40s models, similar to the Arcadia from GW and vintage Campus.

A little dry perhaps. I gave it a Bick4 treatment. Ty

Yes, I never tried treating any of mine but a couple of the ones I've had did develop a slightly dry surface feel after a couple of years, if its got that I'd be pretty sure it was genuine.

BTW the Clooney film jacket was another model, think it was called the Dodge. It was Brad Pitt in Benjamin Button who wore a Panther -

Most of the jackets from this era I've seen in the UK were tagged as M, L, XL etc. Of the newer jackets, after the company changed hands, some are now Euro sized.

I have seen the pop in liners for these Panther jackets marked in true chest sizing, IE 42 fits a 42 chest. And then the Motorcycle range from the same era I think I had to get a **XL (3XL - Why can't they shut off this **** filter!?!) for a 44" chest.

It seems to have been a somewhat chaotic company!
