Guys, I'm looking for a black goatskin A-2, with period correct fit. What do you think the options are? I think Aero could do it, but is there any other choice?
Knits and zippers could be swapped out and replaced, and I want to put in a sky blue rayon lining.

What about Johnson Leathers? A discussion with Alan might pay off. Was there a particular inspiration to this idea, J?

Langlitz works with goatskin, too. But those are all really pricey... Isn't there anything else that doesn't have a seven million dollars label?

I have a black G-1 from U.S. Authentic that was made to order for me. The goatskin Shaul used is thick, soft, and has a nice texture to it.
As far as fit goes, I have read many reviews on here detailing the trials and tribulations people have gone through trying to get an A-2 from U.S Authentic that fit to their liking. I don't own one myself so I can't speak to that.
It might be worth reaching out to Shaul directly to see if you could agree on the measurements because his black goat is very nice leather.

Hi fellas!
Some great suggestions there! I'll look into it! Unlike G-1s, (and even though I'm slimmer now) large size A-2s with their one-piece back need a pretty big piece of goat hide, and that means a pretty big goat in order to maintain thickness and quality of the hide. This was the factor that kept my size 50 Aero M442a an 18 month wait.

J. Chapman is a gent and an artisan, and the quality of his jackets is astounding, but I associate higher ticket prices with expedited ownership (coz it's all about me, me, me!).

Peacoat! You made me spit my whiskey all over breakfast! In my lifetime, yes please!

Seb, it's a tale! I met this Japanese guy who owns vintage bikes and stuff last year, and while we were talking, he pulls this A-2 out. It looked like a civilian copy of an A-2 because it was black (and it was goat) and it had a talon zipper and a bright sky blue rayon lining. It had stitch holes where a label used to be, and stitch holes on the chest where it looked like a round USAAF squadron patch had been. The cut was really quite trim.
He said he thought it was a 50's Korean War era jacket. There's no way to know, but it looked great, and I want one

@Big J - I have a very dark seal "A-1" with olive knits from LW. I love the color combo. Just get a jacket you like - if I want a true to form mil repop of any model, I know who to go to, if I want something that is of my imagination (or someone else's) then I no longer feel shamed. I'm over that whole thing, and there's a place for realistic vs whatever.
