I remember having a very bad experience on my silver Duke of Edinburgh expedition back in 91. A year later, I went out into the Mournes for my Gold expedition armed with a tip my grandmother professed to have seen in a documentary about the SAS. Before I put my socks on every morning of those four days, I slathered my feet in Vaseline. Of the five of us I was the only one who didn't blister in our group of five. If I had boots that were threatening a blister now I'd do the same thing. Feels a bit weird at first, but you soon get used to it!
