How interesting, I hadn't realised that colour film existed before the late 1930s.

I've seen a few of those images, but always thought that they were hand tints, and I'm still having a hard time convincing myself otherwise. It's just too far fetched for me, I guess.

Autochrome was first commercialised in 1908 or 1909. it was an expensive process, but not a rare one. National Geographic adopted it early on for their color photo spreads, as early as 1912 or 1913, I think.

he autochrome was always a positive transparency, which was mounted over a sheet of white celluloid.
