Colour advice needed

I'm going to have the ribbon on a new fedora replaced due to fading and I'd like the forum's advice on colour. The fedora is a light gray. Typically these come with a dark gray or black ribbon (I prefer the latter) but I'm also considering a light colour, perhaps a beige or off white to give it a spiffier look, not so serious as the darker ribbon.

Any suggestions? I have yet to see an example of a gray fedora with a light ribbon.

Here's a photo:

I have a gray hat I'm just finishing converting from a western hat. Haven't posted any pics yet but here are a couple sneak previews of the ribbon.

I was trying something different looking so I went with a hunter/dark sage green for the main ribbon and then a light sage highlight with the bow.

I'm still trying to decide on the ribbon so the bow isn't tacked down yet.

RJCNTX, beautiful hat! I don't know if it's the lighting or what have you, but my hat looks much darker. Yours looks white with a green ribbon.

I'd like to see a gray hat with a white/light coloured ribbon. Thanks anyways!

Earlier this year, I had Art make me a hat. He eventually decided on "steel" for the colour of the felt, and I'd say that it's roughly similar to the colour of your hat here. He put a burgundy ribbon on it, and it looks fabulous. Might want to look at something around that part of the colour wheel, as well.

You have done a superb job with that bow! I think you should leave it as is and wear the hat a bit. It looks like a keeper to me!

I like the idea for burgundy. The hat would also look very good in a deep blue (although that isn't quite the light color you are looking for).

Anon, do you have a photo of your gray & burgundy hat you can post?
Sure, if you don't mind the disgustingly myspace-ish feel of the photo ;)
I tried take pics this morning, but the flash makes the felt look like a much lighter shade of grey than it really is. This photo isn't even the best, but I suppose on second look, this felt probably is a bit darker than I first thought. And there's no green in the felt! No clue why it looks that way in the pic.

Alon, Art made me a hat out of his "blue smoke", which is a medium grey. I didn't specify a ribbon color so Art used a navy ribbon and it is wonderful. I did like the looks of the burgundy ribbon, but that may be just a bit restrictive as to what you can wear it with. But either way would look good with your hat. (Grey and burgundy are my ole high school colors.):p

Thank you for that photo. The hat looks fantastic. I really like the combination but as duggap said, it really restricts what you can wear with it.

It does somewhat, but I find that this has is rather more versatile than the natural-coloured Wall Street (the one I'm wearing in my avatar), at least for my current wardrobe. The felt colour itself goes well with most navy, charcoal and grey stuff that I own (in fact, that's the very reason I ordered it--Art actually chose the colour based on that requirement). The ribbon lends a nice splash of colour that combines well with some ties and quite a few of those fun little accessories (pocket squares, socks, cufflinks, etc).

Just a thought, of course! One can never really have too many hats, anyway (though one can come close, I think)...

If you found the right shade of a silver-blue ribbon, I suspect it would look wonderful with your gray hat.

One other question. I also love the big, fat ribbons. D'you think one of those would look well on this hat?

Visited my hatter today and decided to go with black. There wasn't much choice for the width I wanted. The original ribbon is 19 ligne, I went with 22.

Photos will come up next week. Thanks for your input, guys.
