I just purchased this homburg on ebay

I would like to know whether I got a good deal? Also, any ideas on when this would have been made?

Thanks,
Sam

edit: photos added because they're no longer in ebay auction.

I think you got a good deal on it considering that it's 7 3/4. It looks like it's in good shape, just dirty. It should clean up nicely.

I'm a 7 3/4 which is why I snapped it up when I saw it. I was actually looking for a derby and found it due to the seller misnaming it.

Looking at it more I'm beginning to wonder whether this actually is a homburg. Could this be something more like this?

Any ideas on the age of this hat?

Also, what color do the bow and box look like to you in the photos?

When I purchased it I was looking at it on another monitor and the bow looked like burgundy and the box was a lighter shade of burgundy. Now that I'm on another computer the box looks hot pink and the bow much lighter than before.

Could you tell me what details helped you to find when it was made?
Also, is the hatbox really hot pink?!
Thanks,
Sam

Sure, the golden coach logo starts appearing on sweatbands around '54. The lining with piping and a dark logo tip are more typical from later in the decade. The brim curl is also consistent with what typically appears on late-'50s hats, as the D'Orsay curl was dead and gone.

I'm guessing the box is red.

It depends on the size of the hat. Do you wear a 7 3/4? This might measure 7 3/4".

This is what I'd be thinking about. The " is in the auction.

That was the first thing I noticed, and my first assumption was that the hat opening measured 7 3/4" across, but it also says in the auction that it is size 7 3/4 and 24". I think it's pretty safe to say that it's a size 7 3/4; the seller just doesn't know the proper sizing nomenclature.

I noticed the seller had written 24" too so I'm not too worried.

It will be arriving tomorrow so I'll know for sure then.

Good luck with the fit. If that works out, a little brushing should have it looking great.

Well, the hat is here and it's a size 7 (measured 22" in circumference inside the sweatband). I've contacted the seller to get it worked out. :(
