I could wade thru tons of pages or ask here.

Recently I ran across a gentleman that wears different fedoras. Finally I told him I love his Fedoras. Is there another name for a mans Fedora?
He didn't even know what his hats were called. He just liked them and called them hats. :D
I forgot to ask him how long he had been wearing hats but maybe he just had them as they are in style now? He was in his 40s I say.

Thank you. I know what a Fedora is. I have been here half my life it seems. I was just wondering if there is now a new term or something for the Fedora style. and/or the guy just likes hats like he says. They did match his different shirts. That may be all he cared about. Thanks. I will tiptoe out now.

Stay as long as you like.
I grew up calling what is basically an Open Road style fedora either a Snap-Brim or Brim for short.
A fedora was a wide ribbon, raw or welt edged "city" hat that the old men wore, usually with the brim up front & back.
The other hats were cowboy/buckaroo westerns.

That's a fair question, foofoogal. perhaps this is why, when looking for unnoticed treasures on ebay, some of us type in: "fedora hat dress lid bogart madmen gangster chapeau stetson vintage stingy-brim wide-brim felt fur gentleman's suit hat."

+1. Around here, fedoras, trilbys, straws, derbys, stingy, porkpies and any hat with a brim on it is generically called a "brim". It's common for someone to compliment the wearer with, "That's a nice brim.". Unless, as stated above, it is a western hat.

PS: Just today, I went to an older gentleman's apartment to do an inspection and he wore a homburg as he was fixing to step out. I told him that I loved his homburg and he didn't know what kind of hat he was wearing. He said he just bought it.
