Back bows have been around a long time, and they cannot be related to specific decades. However, they were seen more often in the 1920s and again in the 1950s.

Here's a question:

What about a hatband without any bow, neither right, nor left, or nor back? The custom hatter with whom I will meet tomorrow

has this as an option, rather strange, but an option none the less. It would give the hat not only a "clean" look, but would also

show a truely bespoke appearance.

Regards.

I think it would have to have something to cover the seam.

It wouldn't be a choice I would make for my bespoke hat, but YMMV.

Leon Drexler? Isn't that the guy who makes both the Cagney and the Powell for Matt Deckard?

As to hats without any bows: maybe he was referring to pugs rather than standard ribbons? Like this one:

"Leon Drexler? Isn't that the guy who makes both the Cagney and the Powell for Matt Deckard?"
QUOTE Mario.

Stephen does not make hats for Matt, as his blog was only a "pat on the back" as to Stephen's quality & finesse of construction.

http://deckardsguide.blogspot.ca/2012/02/leon-drexler-canadas-custom-hatter.html

I have just emailed Stephen as to the application that you have shown; "You've got it, by gum, you've got it!".

I await his reply. Of course this banding would be on the conventinal (left side) rather on the back as originally discussed.

Regards.

No problem.

Then there is this link:

http://asuitablewardrobe.dynend.com/search?q=drexler

You must realize that the last time that I wore any kind of hat was during the late 60's - 70's, and just having retired, thought it about time

to "get with the programme" again. After having bought a new ------------ I was driven to this forum by it's total lack of quality, only to find

out (too late) that there are OTHERS! Eg: Art Fawcett, Gary White, Leon Drexler, Optimo, et al, with Leon Drexler Co being in my home city.

I will later post my "Finding the Right Hatter & Hat" on another thread when my "Autobahner" is complete, but will keep you "in the loop" re

the hatband bow.

I want to thank at this time Will at ASW, Art Fawcett, Matt, and others for their blogged and/or forum posted guidance which helped

immeasurably in my due dilligence

Regards.

The saying, "Good things come to those who wait." certainly has applied in this instance; an email from Stephen, Tuesday AM, and the Prize

was on my head that afternoon, with it being everything of my anticipation. The "bow area" is of conventional placement (left side, not rear.)

with the silk material in a receeding end overlap fashion, looks both restrained and clean, along with a certain degree of flair.

I am one happy guy!

Many KUDOS were given to Stephen Temkin o/a Leon Drexler Hand Crafted Fedoras for his fine hand and eye in it's creation.

After a suitable model/setting/photo upload, a pic or link will be posted upon this thread at a later date.

Kind regards,

Can't wait to see it. His online photos look sublime, but it will be cool to see his work in real-life light. I've been eyeing his "Londoner" for quite some time, but his prices, though I'm sure they're worth every penny, are simply beyond my means.
Congrats, and looking forward to the photo.

Btw I actually really enjoy the backbows!

Within my last post No 14, I failed to mention that the hat Stephen made for me was not "The Autobahner", as noted in post No 13,

but was only along similar lines and became a full custom.

"his prices, though I'm sure they're worth every penny,"
QUOTE bowlerman.

Do bear in mind that here in (Toronto) Canada, the price of a "quality" off the rack production hat begins at app $400.00 + tax. The

aforementioned is of rabbit or hare and not beaver felt as with the Leon Drexler hat. The construction/detailing of the production hat

is very poor:

Hat band above brim, showing sweat band stitching - non reeded.

Visible (3, c/w non trimmed ends) hat band retainer stitching.

Visible (9, c/w untrimmed ends) bow retainer stitching.

Glued-in liner.

The product that Stephen delivered to me contained none of the above flaws and was presented in a personable and professional

manner within the confines of this city; a win/win situation for both he and I.

"The quality remains long after the price is forgotten."

Kind regards,

"After a suitable model/setting/photo upload, a pic or link will be posted upon this thread at a later date."
MY QUOTE from No 14 above.

Well, I have had it. Tried this, that, and the other thing and still cannot perform a picture upload to this or another forum to which I

subscribe. After having had a Photo Bucket Account for 5 years and did meet with success shortly thereafter, and rested on my laurels

since, I have forgotten how it was done. Reading these and other forums with their instructions on "How to" with their encompassing

entwined threads is of no help what so ever, with even Photo Bucket being of little help. I do not want "A New & Improved Photo

Bucket, Twitter, Facebook, Share this, Now you can, Love this, Change that, etc. I just needed to upload some pics to a forum. "It's

soooo easy!" - Of course it is; so is anesthesiology! (When one knows how.) Leave out one item, a click here, a missed "Between the

parenthsis", or a "Wrap here", and all is lost. Unless a Someone writes-out a precise, step by step (1, 2, 3, 4,) Set of Instructions,

with no "of course that should be done in this manner, clck, click." I will remain "Stupid & Ignorant" in the ways & means of photo

upload. I am retired as well as being tired & fed-up; I just want to be retired.

End of Rant.

Kind regards to the forum,

From some of the old European movies I've seen the back bow seems to have been somewhat popular in Europe (specifically Germany and France) in the 1920s and perhaps the very early 1930s. Or least I've seen more in those films than US films of the time.

Upload the image files to Photobucket, switch to the old version of Photobucket (there's a link) and, by hovering over the uploaded image in your album, copy & paste the IMG code into the message text of your Fedora Lounge posts.
The Photobucket IMG code looks like this:
http://i1082.photobucket.com/albums/j373/KM25man/VS-ribbonbows.jpg[/IMG
...but with an extra "]" bracket at the end which I left out so that you can see the code and not the image.

Or use the new version and get the IMG code by clicking the X at the corner of each pic, then follow the menue.

Hope this helps.
