BACKSTORY: I first saw the High Large Leather jackets in a thread here. At that time I think they only made Trucker style jackets. I was in Love, but the sizes only went to a size 42 which I could not wear. Many cool leather Truckers are out there. All the major makers; Aero, Vanson, Schott, Levi make great truckers. A variety of small makers have their twist on the classic look.

I've owned two Lost Worlds truckers. One was a 46 and too big, the other was a size 42 and too small. The 46 also had a detachable collar, but was too heavy a leather. The 42 was the perfect leather, very stiff lighter weight horsehide. If it would have fit I would not be writing this. The LW 42 was older and not like any leather I had seen from Lost Worlds.

I went on to own a couple of Lee Trevors which were cool jackets, but an odd fit.

About a year ago I got a Taubers trucker I thought would be the end game for me. It is from the early 70s steerhide in a size 46. I have only seen a few of these and all were too small for me. I am quite pleased with the Taubers.

FIT

The Fine Creek Virginia Beach came on ebay in a size 46. I hesitated on this one even though it was unworn. I started researching FCL and found they are doing size 44/46 and being aggressive getting their jackets in markets outside Japan. I also learned about the “recipe” they use to create the “worn” look. I don't understand leather chemistry so I trust they do. I had not choice in size. The 44 numbers would probably work, but it would be a very different jacket. The 46 allows for wearing heavier winter garments, I doubt I could do that with the size 44.

I did notice the are longer than a typical jacket. The wrap on Truckers is their length, too short. Now it seems the Fine Creek are too long. I do like short jackets and this is not a short trucker on me in this size. I have adjusted.

IMPRESSIONS

The leather is heavier than I thought. After seeing pictures of well worn, broken in jackets I assumed these were a lighter weight. I don't know as I write this what the leather weight is. I would guess 3 to 3.5 ounce and stiff like a new horsehide jacket. I notice they are advertising a 2mm hide. No idea they were making jackets this heavy.

That is the size 42 Lost Worlds I refer to. I think someone here got that jacket. It was nice. The hide was stiff as a board and not very thick. I never had a Lost World jacket with leather like that size 42. This FC is very much like that.

This is their largest size, 46 and fits me like a 46. The 44 would probably be a t-shirt only fit on me. My Taubers is a 46, my Lee Denim Storm Rider is a 46.

You could get a lot taller person in this size 46, the overall length and sleeve length would allow and turn it into a regular fitting 46. I typically wear a 44.

I did not know about their use of Shinki until today in another thread. I know they reference another Tannery on their website and reference to their unique "recipe" which adds to the wear. This leather is unique in some way, not like Shinki I have owned. The texture is rough but smooths out with use, interesting.

The leather quality, patterns, cuts, and manufacturing methods of the leather made with the original recipe are the best! !!

This is a quote from the above website. My jacket is new, so may be made with a different recipe.

Great jacket. The fit is spot on I think

Thank you. I have the hem buttons on tight and they really hold this jacket to your body. This too reminds me of a Lost World jacket. I'm 5'9" this 46 would be perfect with a few more inches. Their 44 numbers looked like a 44 too.

I know they make a lot of other models. I don't know much about them. I'm hoping other owners will throw their jackets out here. I'd like to seem them and hear there stories.

It is very practical jacket is many respects. It is a very interesting jacket too.

The new vs worn pictures is the best way to advertise this. Looks like it's made with the less stable top coat so it wears rather faster. Hope you keep this, so we can see the journey it's been on

I've been wearing the jacket for about 2 weeks. I've put a lot of time in it. In hand you can see some of the purposeful construction and how it creates the finish. I think it is more than wear of the top coat but not sure what it is. Time will tell. It is fine as is. it has a sheen.

I realize now that the jacket is perfect for taking pictures, which I already do. So documenting this will be easy and fun. One of the reason I find it interesting.

Nice jacket. As per your request here’s My type 3 in a 44. I love it. About 2 years old Or so. I’m the 2nd owner. I have room for a thick sweater underneath it. It is snug but manageable with a thick sweater. Best with a henley or mid thick shirt.

Wow, that's some serious wear time. Definitely looks shiny/stiff when brand new, it looks well made and fits you well. I love how the fine creek jackets evolve so much faster than other jackets. A well made and great fitting Trucker jacket is just hard to beat and great to wear.
