For Those Wanting a Work of Art

Please be seated when seeing the price. Call it an "Upper-Level" Price-Check. There are folks buying similar items who brag about it.

See Pix and read the following text about this magnificent (and wholly inauthentic) creation. I'm sure it is very well made, but so are garments from other Mfrs.

As I posted on VLJ forum: "The carefully worded and effusive text description somehow makes me feel "inadequate" for not leaping at this obvious work of art." Even the folks at VFG forum are aghast at the price.

I'll assume it's regarding this that was mentioned in the WJAYWT thread:
What jacket I will never be wearing at all: RMC has just released an indigo-dyed A-2 for a more than reasonable EUR 6.250. And even VAT/customs are already included.

Have you not seen jeans going for $2k? N&F 40oz. There are clothes for peasants and there are clothes for only royalty, like influencers, who can afford them. Welcome to the real world of wealth inequality. If you can’t afford those clothes, you weren’t their target audience in the first place. The market determines the pricing.

I was in a chat about five years ago where the N&F guy talked about it (years before release) and it's basically a conceptual thing. It's not a status symbol to be waddling because you can't walk.

It's probably close to that expensive for them to make.

A bit like that Japanese guy in Brooklyn who makes repro denim using vintage sewing machines, and he has one 19th century pair that costs 3x more than the other jeans and includes a warning to only get them if you're sure you want them. The reason it costs 3x the price is that they take 3x longer to make.

I mean you’d have to be a fool not to want to cover yourself in this navy blue garbage bag. Just look at how it accentuates….nothing.

Y’2 indigo horse is available at Standard and Strange for $1625. Cheaper if buying directly from Japan. RMC is smoking crack.

RMC is heavy on the brand cachet, although they still make quality stuff.

At the same time, if they know they can sell a limited quantity item for 6k why should they sell for it 2k lol. We'll see if it sells or ends up on the sale rack.

I can hear the Benny Hill music already...
It really is awful. Usually, I am a live-and-let-live and etc. sort of person, but that is objectively an awful item. It’s gauche, ill-considered, gratuitously inept, in ways hard to describe but oddly worth the effort to do so. You can only sniff coldly, scratch yourself while grimacing and walk away, feeling less because you’ve had the ill-luck to see it.

Can't. Unsee. It. It's like spending $8k building out a 1989 Hyundai. By a 16yo.

There has been a trend going on in the Japan in the last decade that leather jackets are seen as a status symbol. They used to scoff at anything below $3k price tags. Idk what the current threshold is, but maybe $6k is the new height (or soon, floor) for bragging rights. What’s the point of having all that money for if you don’t spend it on things to impress your family and friends?

If it’s being sold at a certain price by a top brand like RMC, there is a market for it. Just because you can’t afford it doesn’t mean others also can’t.

It depends on one's "disposable" funds, and one's taste. No problem with me on someone buying this particular item but doing so FAR exceeds my personal price/value equation.

Couple questions:

1) Do we know if it is also 6k USD in Japan? Usually their jackets are quite cheaper less astronomically expensive over there.

2) Let's say this doesn't work and they barely sell any (which I doubt). End up having to sell them at 50%. Do you guys think they wouldn't be making a profit anyway?

IDK about their profit margin on this particular item. I'm certain that folks buying for this price would be "upset" to see same item offered for significantly less in near future.

I like the look of the leather very much. Impossible to tell what the fit's like without seeing it worn, but then at this sort of price it's so far off being an option for me that it doesn't really matter.

I quite like the boldness of specc'ing an A2 in such a niche design where the colour is so obviously "wrong", given the premium placed on apparent stitch-for-stitch accuracy by so much of the A2 market. But then I've long had the impression that in Japan there's a bigger market for this sort of gonig off-book on military designs than would be the case in the English speaking world at least.
