Does anyone know where the term "imperial beard/moustache" comes from?

I was under the impression that that meant a moustache connected to sideburns, and had something to do with some Austrian. However, when I took a glance at wiki, I saw a separate style, this one, referred to as the imperièle having something to do with Napolean II.
