Getting mold out of a leather jacket - SOLVED

Necroing this old thread to ask what we think about it 6 years later. Has anybody used this method with success?

More importantly, is this harmful or counterintuitive to ridding mold from a jacket?

I ask because I got a very rare Schott recently in great condition, except it had mold spots under the sleeve cuff zips and starting to appear in the hem between panels. Returned it for a refund and about a month later, seller offered it to me again at a big discount and after a professional cleaning and conditioning.

I received the jacket and no longer see the mold it had but worry about lingering mold in the lining, etc., so right now i have it sitting in one of these vacuum sealed bags per OP, and also added 4 silica packets to **** out any moisture. I plan on taking the jacket out in 2 weeks. However, I've always presumed airing it out is preferable -- am I more likely to encourage mold regrowth by doing this?

Your best bet there would be an ozone generator.
Yeah I need to invest in one of those.
Too spendy, Gentlemen. You can do the same thing for ten bucks with a 2oz Ozium bomb. Available on Amazon.

Bump. @hieu -- how did your jacket that you tried this vacuum seal method turn out?

I just tried this for two weeks with one of my jackets -- the seller had it cleaned of mold ("professionally" with the ol' vinegar solution) and when I received it, there weren't any traces (knock on wood). However, I wanted to be sure to eradicate any mold so it doesn't return, nor spread to any other jackets when this one goes into the closet.

I'm about to take it out of the sealed bag (which let in a bit of air so wasn't completely vacuum tight -- looks like my wife had duct taped a tear). That said it is very little leakage. I also used 4 silica packs in the bag to draw out moisture from the air in the bag. Let's hope this beauty has been rehabilitated.
