A friend of mine is getting an hour of private swing dance lessons.

I think I will give my parents the CD Down from the Mountain, a performance of songs that were in the movie Oh Brother, Where Art Thou.

A few years ago, I gave my brother and his family the movies The Farmer's Wife and Rear Window. Last year I gave them Jim Lileks' book on vintage child rearing advice. To wit: don't handle the baby too much, oil the baby and put her in the sun, etc. My sister-in-law said she laughed until she cried.

I once gave my other brother a reference book on the prices of John Deere tractor parts since he is a collector and restorer.

I don't give used clothing as gifts unless I know the recipient wears used clothing. Some people won't wear it.
