I've never really liked the way goat never looks broken-in, but I think Seb's comments cover that pretty well. Everyone who's gotten one here on the Lounge seems to swear by them, but, I dunno, personally I can afford so few of these things that I'd rather go with a more noble beast like horse. With goat I'd feel like I should be dancing in some fertility ritual.

Goat is the most wearable IMO. Maybe not the most satisfying if you're into cuts, bruises and creases, but goat possesses an aura that says:

"I'm goat. The other hides are so full of themselves, preocupied with how distressed they look; but I'm useful where it counts, there's elegance to be found in simplicity, and I am in fact cooler."

LW's goatskin is amazing. Light, but as thick as their lightest HH and no break time needed.

I have a peacoat in goatskin from LW and couldn't be happier with it.

SpeedRcrX -- that's a superb looking piece! Fits you great too. Yeah, my LWs "Roadmaster", in lighter 3.25 + oz horsehide, is a marvel to wear - supple, but tough as nails. The quality of Stuart's "horse" is nothing short of top-notch. I'm looking forward to picking up a goatskin jacket.

I'm also in the minority, but I'm not a huge fan of goat. The exception being Rudie's custom Aero HB. That one is incredible.

I too prefer goat primarily for it toughness and lack of weight. Although, if I was a rider I'd get steer or horse. However Langlitz might change my mind. I would like to handle Aero and LW goat. I did have an early 50s G1 years ago and that goatskin was fabulous.

Yes, but it sounds like a lot of goatskins to be had for the sound of all that slaughter!

I guess I don't entirely understand all of the angst about break in.

I had a cowskin Peroni airline jacket that never looked broken in and my issue G-1 pictured above still looks brand new for being ten years old. But the G+B while not all "I just got out of a burning Corsair", is soft, nicely creased, and looks entirely broken in. And the ELC is only one year old and it has a ton of character.

This is no longer the case. The goats are standing up for themselves.

Just not much of a goat hide fan here either. I have a couple of G1 jackets in goat that got me acquainted with it..but that's it. I much prefer the burnished character that HH develops...or even steer. Plus a friend that I ride with pulled out over a curb while trying to talk over his bike noise,stumbled,and awkwardly layed it down on pavement while wearing a goat MC jacket..and later realized,that although tough,once the top finish was scuffed it was almost impossible to blend back or repair than some other hides. He still carries that roughed up scar on his goat jacket that even with much elbow grease of effort can't come close to matching the new look of the rest of it.

I'll bet the HM fans sicced the goats on him. Seriously, though, I had a dark cordovan goat cafe racer that was part of my daily uniform for years. Really heavy but a great jacket. I agree with HD, though, that HH has a more appealing kook. Then again, Deacon's ELC and Rudy's jacket are really fine specimens.

Anybody who thinks that goatskin doesn't/can't age beautifully should have a look at Mike1973's civilian A-2 from a few years back. Maybe it took some time to look like this but this would give any HH jacket a run for its money in the patina and good-looking stakes:

Yes, or the G8 as other jacket makers call it - there are versions by other makers. There's a recent thread about this one trying to identify if the pattern was created in the 1970's or earlier.
